I don't think I'm concerned about the loophole. I recall reading that this will be dealt with in the next CBA, which will be in force next September, well before he closes out his senior year.
Having said that, he becomes a UFA at the age of 27, regardless of when he signs. As he's 20, they're not going to get any extra years of control by delaying. And sure, they burn a year of his ELC, but also, who cares? Do you think he'll have a resume in two years to break the bank on his next contract? If anything, it's more advantageous to have him with fewer accolades and reasons to pay him more dollars when his ELC expires. I suppose the only reason you don't is because you think it's best for his development to stay in college. I don't think it has anything to do with playing hardball.
