The Panthers lost in the 1st round with Brunette, then they let him go and have gone to back-to-back Cup Finals without him.

Can we please stop mythologizing this guy like he's Scotty Bowman.
Well a second round sweep but Nashville also lost to Vancouver on a third string goalie in the playoffs this year.

Love Bruno but yeah you're probably right here. Also let's not forget the fact the powerplay failed this year's Nashville team versus Vancouver and that collapse they had in Game 4 (?) and the fact that Florida team got utterly taken to school by TB in 2022 and the powerplay also failed there.

Yeah I’m out on giving Saros $9M+ for 7+ years and losing 10th overall plus for him.

This place is on drugs.

🤣 was wondering if someone would react to this. It was to make a point not to suggest the trade. Bratt, Nico, Jack, Simon and Luke belong together like the Backstreet Boys 🕺

Even if I didn't like the deal it would be because Markstrom's uneven throughout his career and we gave up a long term team controlled player for that. And that Bahl still had some runway to grow.

But the reasons for dissent thus far are pretty hilarious. PKing and gutting the pool.

Like it or not, the expectations are now playoffs and it's about who can help with that for the next 7-10 years.

Sometimes I wonder if certain people here make it their mission to post Bratt trades just to be edgy....

Anyway, Not crazy about Markstrom but it's the best we can do considering Saros and Ullmark would've taken far more astronomical prices to acquire.

This is a trade that looks “ok” in the moment but you won’t really know what the true cost/benefit was until the dust settles. If Markstrom shits the bed next year and this team winds up giving up a #11 pick because of it (in addition to the loss of a roster defenseman) that’s pretty bad. If he and the team have a great season, the price won’t be second-guessed at all.

Fitz has made a bet. Let’s hope it pans out better than the last several he’s made for this position.

So you would rather have not made the playoffs yet again just to have Brunette (who you guys all credited for the good season anyway) instead of having one good year, eating it then getting Keefe? Honestly they got the best of both worlds, they got back to the playoffs AND an upgrade as coach, I don’t see why anyone is STILL looking back

I'm more talking about the fact that I was rooting against the Devils at that point because Ruff was so awful. I think if they sucked for another week at the beginning of that season he would have been canned and they could have went to the playoffs under Brunette.

I'm more than pleased we ended up with Keefe.

Let's suppose the best case scenario...

Is making the playoffs and getting bounced in a round or maybe even two worth a middle 1st round pick and Bahl?

I don't know at this point I don't think we should be unloading the chambers to just make the playoffs. It seems shortsighted.

At least we know this wasn’t the worst move by an NHL team today, if the Sharks are still NHL worthy anyway
