Here are the stats of a certain goalie during his junior career.

year 1: 54 games played-- 6.26 GAA
year 2: 61 games played-- 4.44 GAA
year 3: 44 games played-- 5.55 GAA

They don't list any save % for those years. The goalie in question?

Patrick Roy.

Now I'm not saying the D'Aigle is the next Roy, but goalies have to be scouted differently. I do admit however, that D'Aigle has not lived up to his predraft hype whatsoever.

I don't think you can compare goalie stats from the 1980's to now...

I know that it was a very different game back then, but I still believe that goalies have to be scouted differently than skaters. Goalie stats are affected by the quality of the team in front of them.

The poster I quoted said that D'Aigle was a DND using his stats. (I'm too lazy to actually fact check his post. I apologize in advance if I'm wrong.)

that is great to hear...the kid has all the tools to be the next great goalie from the QMJHL, Size, speed, agility....his confidence and mental game is what is lacking....hoping the kid is starting to get some confidence back...he could be a steal in the NHL draft if the right team gets him and give him the time to work with great coaches.

Yes, he did. Victo was playing its third game in less than four days and against Moncton, the top team in the Q. It was a game Victo only had a hope of winning if D'Aigle stood on his head.

I saw him on Saturday, the night before this game. Two nights earlier, BTW, he was first star in a win over Cape Breton. Against Halifax, which is the only game that I saw, I got my first look at him live.

Here were my observations:

Big kid who moves well and uses his height to track the puck well. Despite this, he seems to have holes in his coverage. He doesn't seem like a reflex goalie and will have to learn to use his size better to cut off angles and block out the net. One goal that he allowed, by Shawn Carrier, he should have stopped. The other two, were good goals and not really his fault. Victo won this this game 4-3 in overtime.

My takeaway?

The kid is a project. He needs a good goalie coach to teach him the style he'll need to play and then some playing time to iron it all out. I would not be surprised if he was drafted late or invited to a camp.

It's really too bad that the hype got out of control. He did have a promising start to his QMJHL career, but his performance has regressed since then. I'm sure the lack of confidence is affecting his ability to feel comfortable in the net. I have a theory he might be thinking too much and trying to be too technical. This kid just needs to be bigger and more aggressive -- giving shooters less to look at it.

I agree. He's got other stuff to work on for sure but I think as so often with goalies, the problem is between the ears. He's too fragile, needs to start believing in himself. He's just a kid so it's only normal that he's not as mentally strong as a seasoned NHL vet. Still, he's cracking too often for my liking, needs a shorter memory. It's just too often he gits lit up badly. He lets in a weak one, too often times he just seems to look rattled, almost give up. Probably a bit unfortunate that he has to play behind a rather bad team but with the right approach this can also be an opportunity. Sooner or later every goalie has to learn how to deal with adversity.

Is he gonna figure it out? I don't know. At this point he's a project with interesting tools. I think he's still gonna get drafted in the later rounds and then we'll see where it goes.

Je suis d'accord. Il a d'autres choses à améliorer, c'est sûr, mais je pense que comme souvent avec les gardiens, le problème est entre les deux oreilles. Il est trop fragile, il doit commencer à croire en lui. Ce n'est qu'un enfant, il est donc normal qu'il ne soit pas aussi fort mentalement qu'un vétéran de la LNH. Pourtant, il craque trop souvent à mon goût, il a besoin d'une mémoire plus courte. Il est trop souvent en colère. Il laisse passer un faible, trop souvent il semble juste ébranlé, il abandonne presque. C'est probablement un peu malheureux qu'il doive jouer derrière une équipe plutôt mauvaise, mais avec la bonne approche, cela peut aussi être une opportunité. Tôt ou tard, chaque gardien doit apprendre à faire face à l'adversité.

Est-ce qu'il va s'en sortir ? Je ne sais pas. À ce stade, c'est un projet avec des outils intéressants. Je pense qu'il va encore être sélectionné dans les derniers tours et nous verrons ensuite où cela nous mène.

I'm not sure you really watched all his games because his greatest strength is that he never gives up, even after 6 goals. It's not easy playing for a really weak team, he received 200 more shots than any other goalie in the league and not to mention the scoring chances , it doesn't make sense.

D'Aigle stopped 51 of 54 against division leader Drummondville in a 3-2 loss. He made multiple 5 star saves. However, the game winning goal by Drummondville was a very stoppable shot.

Unfortunately, on the third goal, the puck went through the net of his glove!
