Future of the team is incredibly bleak

Put me on the crazy idea train.. but why not trade Matthews and Marner together?

With the cap jumping, there are some teams out there that could theoretically make this happen.

Minnesota has a TON of cap space -- can you get Boldy & Eriksson Ek back along with some futures?

Would Anaheim trade Leo Carlsson & Mason McTavish?

Would Utah trade Hayton, Guenther, and McBain?

How about to LA for Byfield, Kempe & Futures?
I'll ask again, why do people think Byfield is good?

Nah. I'm excited for Tre to drop a nuke on this team.

We have some good pieces and pefully lots of cap space to play with

Several other media members have echoed that sentiment + Dorie whose worked in a couple front offices

Absolutely hilarious that we have to watch the Leafs try and compete with others with openly distorted and unfair disciplinary practices

that is why the leafs will never win it is rigged against them

No we have no winning opportunity if we are running back 3 to 4 members of the core back

Nylander is a 9.5M player making 11.5M, overpaid by 2M

Matthews is a 10M player making 13.25M, overpaid by 3.25M

Rielly is a 5M player making 7.5M, overpaid by 2.5M

Tavares come playoffs is a 4M player. If we give him 6-7M he wants he is still 2-3M overpaid

Your team come playoffs has ~10M in overpayment for performance for your core 4.

You wont be getting enough key value players who can give you 15M surplus value on their deals to overcome that.
100% this.

Not only do we need players lower in the lineup to make up those discrepancies, they have to greatly exceed it, because you need to be the team that squeezes 105M worth of performance out of your team in the playoffs. Stolarz could play like he's worth 10M, I could see that, but who else??

That’s bullshit. Ray Charles could see that they are built for regular season. A bunch of cream puffs with no heart. Playoff hockey is a whole different animal and they don’t have the gonads to get the job done!

Leafs have money, they should blow it up and ride out another rebuild. This time, hire a veteran GM, and build from the defense.

It is unfortunate what happened with this era in Toronto. I don't like to see that from such a storied franchise.

Ironically, it was the bargain-bin guys like Pacioretty and Domi who totally outperformed their contracts in the playoffs—while the overpaid captain sat there calling everyone else "passengers."

Patches for sure. You could say he was briefly a 6 million player. Domi? I dunno. 4 seems fair. I'm not sure he outperformed his contract.

Yeah seriously eh. I am 90% on the "ya, they really are just running back for a nice even decade - Marner [only because he desperately wants out]" bandwagon. I'm sorry, I just do not have any faith in an organization that has proven to be completely inept for so long and never gets the big decisions correct.
Oh, and stuff like this doesn't help instill faith either:

I mean, I know they recently cut 10% of the workforce from MLSE but, wtf are we doing here?

Nothing wrong with believing in your team. We could use more fans like this.

The clowns are the ones throwing beer and jerseys after the team went further than any other season in the last 20 years. That was embarrassing, much more so than the outcome in the game.

Saying "f*** you" to people for having the completely reasonable opinion that we would be in trouble against Florida makes him a clown.

It’s a general comment not directed at anyone in particular. You’re taking it a bit too personally. He is choosing to believe in the team. There’s a lot of people that choose to surround themselves with positivity. Nothing wrong with it IMO.

They can't. They have no picks and no prospects with Montreal and Ottawa light years ahead. It will take at least 7 years to fix the huge mess NHL insider Shanahan intentionally created. They will miss the playoffs next year to help the Boston rebuild. See Tukka Rask. This is a world class clown organization.

This organization is here to make money and they are making it
