Future of the team is incredibly bleak

Classless pointing at willy .no question they threw nylander under the bus
Doesnt ted rogers control this mess now
With 75% ownrrship he can bring in a new hockey czar
They made enough monry off 7 playoff games to fire everybody
Chump change for a billion dollar corp

This is the same billion dollar corporation that has cried poor and actually succeeds in brainwashing Blue Jays fans to think that they can’t spend with the Red Sox and Yankees. The only reason this ownership spends to the cap in hockey is because they make money. It is just a business to these people nothing else.

I was curious, and it turns out, yeah, you guys have a lot of cap to play with in the summer.

Franchise is in a real bad spot. No first round (or really any) picks the next three drafts, not many prospects, core players about to walk out the door to free agency so we can’t even recoup any assets.
I don't even know where to go from here.

UFA market is weak. You likely haven't to overpay for two 2nd/3rd liners

Prospect pool is bleak, at least Cowan looks like a gem.

And we didn't move Marner when we had the chance in the past.

The ultimate manifestation of Leafiness was Dubie... hahahahaha

With a reduced cost JT and Mitchs cap we have a fantastic opportunity next season.
No we have no winning opportunity if we are running back 3 to 4 members of the core back

Nylander is a 9.5M player making 11.5M, overpaid by 2M

Matthews is a 10M player making 13.25M, overpaid by 3.25M

Rielly is a 5M player making 7.5M, overpaid by 2.5M

Tavares come playoffs is a 4M player. If we give him 6-7M he wants he is still 2-3M overpaid

Your team come playoffs has ~10M in overpayment for performance for your core 4.

You wont be getting enough key value players who can give you 15M surplus value on their deals to overcome that.

I would dump Rielly as well.

I think it's about 5-6m in overpays because there are some underpays as well for guys like Tanev and Stolarz.

I feel good about JT 6m, MM gone, MR gone.

Tanev doesn't win you games. He's prevents losses with his great defense but we need people to produce offense and get us wins.

Tavares produces at ~50 pt rate. He is a 3rd liner who is horrific defensively, soft and gets f***ed by defenseman on front of net battles with no responses and has no emotions or leadership qualities. He was given 1PP and 18-19 mins a game and still.gad 31 pts in 51 games as a leaf in his 7 years here.

Him and Nylander suck defensively together so he absolutely can't be our 2C again.

I think he has to be moved. Way too much baggage and failure. He defines the failure of the matthews era. 2017 and 2018 people saw improvements and hope for future success. 2019 to now our former captain and 11M Center drained it all away.

The leafs should be retooling 16+91+44 out for some UFAs to be a fringe playoff team to protect the 1sts we dealt for Laughton and Carlo from being high picks

There is no way we can build a team that beats FLA, EDM, DAL at the minimum the next year

unless they shock everyone and actually rebuild. Matthews brings back an elite prospect, Nylander brings another, tanking to keep our pick brings another. Three elite prospects plus a plethora of random picks from trading everyone else and that's a full rebuild done in 1 year. MLSE doesn't like full rebuilds but they might allow one season.

The bolded is short sided IMO. The picks are gone. It doesn't matter to us if they are 5th or 25th OA. The only argument that you could make is that the 2026 pick is going to a division rival.

The priority should be building the team the right way to ensure long term dice success, not attempting to ice a mediocre wildcard team in order to save face.

Was from the latest JD Bunkis podcast

Put me on the crazy idea train.. but why not trade Matthews and Marner together?

With the cap jumping, there are some teams out there that could theoretically make this happen.

Minnesota has a TON of cap space -- can you get Boldy & Eriksson Ek back along with some futures?

Would Anaheim trade Leo Carlsson & Mason McTavish?

Would Utah trade Hayton, Guenther, and McBain?

How about to LA for Byfield, Kempe & Futures?
