NHL Entry Draft Future Draft Watch

interesting that Reschny and Kindel are both available around our picks.

i would think that of anyone drafted after top 5 top 10these guys would have some of the highest chances to become top liners.

you guys like them or naw?

Both are gambles given they are below average in size and aren't above-average skaters, but the upside is quite high as both have high-end hockey sense and excellent skill.

Reshny looks like he may be the better bet to stick at center, even if he's still more likely to be a winger long-term. He's a bit taller and harder to knock off the puck. I expect he'll go higher in the draft (possibly top 20) while Kindel should be available at our pick.

I don't expect our scouting staff to draft either of them. It's one thing to think they could focus more on skill/smarts this year after loading up on size/snarl in previous years, but we're still talking about a staff that had a 1st round grade on Eliasson because of his tools/toughness, despite being barely able play at the OHL level.

yea i see the size and speed concerns,

but i just hope we start also drafting guys with high hockey iq and making them stronger and faster, vs drafting size and speed and try to teach them NHL IQ.

like at least a more diverse mix.

i think they can both become much better skaters, their mechanics aren't bad, just seem to be lacking power.

The only way I see them taking a guy like Kindel or Reschny is if that player is the last name available in a tier of prospects, after which they see a drop. Say they believe there's a distinct top 17 in this draft, and Reschny is 17th on that list. If he's the only one of those players left at 21, I'd like to think they would look past his size and the bigger alternatives in a tier below and take the better player. Boyd kind of said as much on his recent TSN 1200 interview ("tie goes to the bigger player" should mean that if it's not a tie, they go with the better player even if he's small), although that assumes that the way they evaluate players could even lead to a smaller player like Kindel/Reschny being listed in that theoretical top 17 tier. I won't believe it until I see it.

Part of the issue is that other teams clearly value skill/smarts a lot more than our scouting staff, so it's unlikely that Reshny or Kindel will ever fall far enough to be the BPA on our list when we select.

I think anyone hoping for them will be disappointed, but it's possible we take a skill guy like Carbonneau or Lakovic (should either fall to 21) that also brings some tools to the table that our scouting staff crave.

But unless someone like that falls out of the top 20 I'm thinking the most likely bets are Nesbitt, Nestrasil, Spence or Bruztewicz.

He'd check off enough boxes for our scouts to make it a distinct possibility.

Personally I'm not huge on him, but he's 6'1 205lbs, has enough grit to get the team interested and his offensive skillset (minus hockey IQ) is very impressive.

His IQ isn't that bad either, but he has a ridiculous set of hands, and we need that talent. We have enough smart players to set him up.

This draft is all over the place pretty much after the 15th pick & even that is not guaranteed as someone always goes off the board. While people will always be happy or unhappy with whoever the Sens pick given how open this draft could be I expect they will still get a good player whoever they select although like others I do have some favourites. Still think they could trade down to acquire another pick.

21st - Fiddler, Spence, Nesbitt, Zonnon, Hensler, Cootes, Kindel ... I doubt Carbonneau gets by the Habs with two picks before us.

This was fun

I'd love Blake Fiddler at 21 but I think he goes top 15. Big RHD that skate well are going to be a premium and someone will reach.

Really intrigued by David Bedkowski, seems to check all the boxes:

- RD
- 6'5 220
- Excellent compete and exceptional body
- 7 points on the season, so there could be some untapped offensive potential there à la Ben Roger/Eliasson. Some teams will probably overlook just because of low points totals.
- Consensus rank in the 80s so would be a huge riser if picked in the late 1st, our scouts love late risers
- December birthday

As someone who has Fiddler more in the mid to late 20s range, I'd love it if a team jumped on him in the top 15 and pushed a forward closer to 21. Although Fiddler definitely has that toolsy-ball-of-clay quality that the Sens often fall for.

I see this is a draft where the Sens should be leaning forward at 21. It's a stronger forward class in the first round, the organization has zero high end forward prospects, and odds are a forward is going to get to NHL quicker, which matters as we're entering a competitive window and are going to need cheap reinforcements.

Kindel, Bear, Cootes, Carbonneau, Lakovic, Spence, Reschny, Nesbitt is more or less the pool I'd be focusing in on if I were Donny Boyd.

Could probably trade back and take him with a 2nd round pick

21 would probably be early imo but with our scouts never say never. I would not mind Hensler or Fiddler at 21

Also RD to consider if we trade back are Charlie Trethewey, Henry Brzustewicz

One of the best skaters in this class

Decent chance of being there at 21. HockeyProspect has him 20. Bob's mid season he was 20. Small, smart, fast, elusive

I'm sensing some sarcasm...
