Jarventie was derailed due to knee injuries over 3 years .. Sens missed on Peterka but it doesn't mean Jarventie was a bad pick

He was a bad pick because there was a clear pre draft better player in Peterka. It was so obvious to most . Plus on top he has the connection to Timmy. It was so odd we passed on him twice

Now could have Jarventie developed and been a better player without the injuries? Guess we will never know

I’m surprised we are ranked as high as 24th. Guys 6-10 are other organizations castoffs or career AHL types. Our pipeline is brutal

Outside of Timmy do we have a top end dynamic scoring threat? I don’t really see one.

This team lacks a high IQ, skilled forward with speed. It’s desperately needed in our top 6.

No we do not. Zetterlund hopefully becomes a scoring threat. Looking for 30 goals from him next year.
But we could really use a reliable 40 goal scorer.

It was also obvious to most that Zadina was a clear pre draft better player than Brady. Same for Kaliyev and Pinto.

Zadina > Tkachuk was the consensus on HF, not the consensus among actual scouts.

You have a point on Kaliyev vs. Pinto, mostly because NHL teams get to interview and get to know these prospects off-the-ice and can better get a sense whether they are going to succeed as professionals, while fans do not get that opportunity.

Along with falling for WJC hype and late-birthday point totals, ignoring off-ice issues is one of HF's blindspots when it comes to draft eligibles.

I hated the Jarventie pick. I hope we are done with that kind of draft choice model. Big guy, great shot good hands and we will teach him to skate. I think Mark Stone was the exception not the rule

Jarventie was not a bad skater. His issue was his lack of compete and absence of a two-way game.

Also taking big guys with lots of skill and IQ but skating issues to overcome is one of the best methods of finding gems in the draft.

I mean, have you seen the prospect pools of teams below us? Many don't even have a Halliday, let alone a Yak or Leevi.
Not sure that's too accurate, every team below the Sens has at least 2 guys ranked ahead of Halliday, who is 3rd on the Sens. The whole difference is made up that they picked 7th this past year, the weight of the recent top end pick is very high, and Merilinen isn't valued very highly by them

25th - Kings
Greentree
George
Slukynsky

26th - Lightning
Howard
Gauthier
Huuhtanen
Crozier

27th - Bruins
Lysell
Minten
Letourneau
Merkulov

28th - Knights
Connolly
Cormier
Lindbom
Sapovaliv

29th - Leafs
Cowan
Danford
(traded 2 away this deadline)

30th - Oilers
Savoie
O'Rielly

31st - Avs
Gulyayev
Nabokov
(traded 1 away)

32nd - Panthers
Sawchyn
Sourdif

Fair, but I still take our very poor pool above those, except maybe Edmonton's because I'm very high on O'Reilly. Letourneau above Halliday is insane.
