NHL Entry Draft Future Draft Watch

That size and PIM pretty much guarantees we're not taking him. No point in even entertaining it.

Bryan Murray once surprised himself and took tiny Erik Karlsson, and our most senior scouts (Boyd, Fargher, Janecyk, Ruutu) are all holdovers from the Murray days.

I'm choosing to believe that, despite nearly all evidence to the contrary, this group of scouts is still capable of identifying and getting behind the exceptional cases...

But yeah, they probably won't.

Need something more recent than 17 years ago to convince me

Anders Forsberg and Bob Lowes since gone were here in 2008. Forsberg was instrumental in that pick.

Definitely not trying to convince anyone it's likely or even a possibility worth entertaining. Our scouts have proven over and over that they value certain traits (physical tools, relative positional value, PIMs) and discount others (skill, IQ, a current ability to play the game of hockey at a high level).

It's almost a theoretical thought exercise at this point. If they were to make an exception, assuming they still have that ability, what would the perfect storm of circumstances have to be for it to happen? I don't think they'll actually take Kindel at 21, but on a scale of long shots, I see him as being less of a long shot than some other non-Sens guys in that range. If they shocked the world and took him, I could kind of work back from that selection and see how it came to be.

The idea that the scouts have a certain kind of player they draft is made up on here by those who don't like some of their selections. Over the yrs they have selected all kinds of players, they don't have a certain type of player in mind unless they are drafting for need which is what I think they did last yr, but most of the time they take the best player they have on their list like most teams do. It doesn't mean that it is necessarily the consensus pick, but next best on THEIR list.

In FHM 11 Spence becomes an absolute star every single time…. So I think we should pick him. Insane that he may be available at 21 when he’s always top 10 in the game…… :)

Sens are drafting this kid, I called Yakemchuk last year, it’ll be this player at #21 this year.

JAKOB IHS WOZNIAK - RW

I don’t know why fans don’t like our scouting staff suddenly.

Group think gone wrong IMO
Not too hard to figure out, 2021- has been horrendous. They made 6 picks in 2021, never qualified 4 of them, and Boucher was taken with the 10th.

They have 1 skill player in the system, Yak, in part to some very bad drafting and some terrible trades over the past 4 years

Meh, for me it's not "sudden", I was critical of our scouts even before this rebuild, they kept drafting low-ceiling players that ended up being busts (White, Lazar, Bowers).

And they've drafted like garbage the last 4 years, Yakemchuk is their only good pick, and even then he had a worse D+1 season than a bunch of players taken after him.

Like usual Craig displays a mind of his own when he ranks players for the draft; which is a good thing imo

Bill Zonnon ranked 21 . Others that are this high on him include Ferrari (15), Bukala (21), Recruit (23) , Smaht (22)

Recruit scouting has these as his strengths

Size and Physicality:
At 6’2″, 185 lbs, Zonnon uses his size effectively to shield the puck and maintain possession.
He wins 51% of his 50/50 puck battles and has the strength to park himself in front of the net, where he becomes a significant offensive threat.

Playmaking Ability:
Zonnon completes 91% of his passes, with 1.25 per game leading directly to grade “A” scoring opportunities for teammates.
His vision and creativity allow him to identify and exploit passing lanes, making him a key playmaker on the power play.

Shooting and Scoring:
Zonnon generates 3 grade “A” scoring chances per game, a testament to his ability to get to dangerous areas of the ice quickly and quietly.
He has a heavy wrist shot that is effective both in motion and from a stationary position.

Hockey IQ and Puck Management:
He demonstrates elite puck anticipation, retrieving 3.3 loose pucks after shots per game, showing an ability to read plays and react quickly.
His ability to pick off passes and transition into offense makes him a reliable presence in all three zones.

Versatility:
Zonnon is effective in various roles, including as a net-front presence on the power play, a penalty killer, and a two-way center.
His physical and offensive toolkit allows him to adapt to different linemates and game situations.

Button has Nesbitt and Fiddler 38 and 39, Potter 46 , Nestrasil 65 Vive la difference

Shane Vansaghi is a late Birthday Oct 11.. He's be a bit off the board but I can see the Sens scouts really liking him
BIG RW playing in the NCAA this past year for Michigan State

very projectable player. He'd be a nice big RW to add to the lineup.. Check him out. Not the prettiest skater but he's effective.

But you can’t blame scouts for bad trades, and Boucher if he was healthy would be an NHL player probably on the 3rd and 4th line but if blew up Morgan Reilly once this playoffs he’d be a cult hero.

That Boucher draft to was COVID, maybe teams bombed those drafts, and that draft sucked. But we have good scouts, I have full belief in them this draft and more

And Staois seems to be willing to make trades, so our draft capital may be like Boston or Florida were we trade draft assets for the NHL roster and we build the team through targeted player acquisition. Makes sense too with the cores timeline, wouldn’t be surprised if they trade their 1st this year for a RW or an upgrade on D

Boucher has never been good, healthy or not, he's been an AHL/ECHL level guy.

Anything can happen, but it not likely, he was one of the worst guys on the AHL team this year

But who had Matinpalo making the team or Gaudette scoring 19? I’m not saying Boucher will be an 82 game player but if he can hit and skate I believe Travis Green is the perfect coach to bring him along and find a roll for him even if it’s 9 minutes a night

I'm not going to stop you, more than fine to hope for the best
