Inspired by the thread by @Filthy Dangles, what are the most funny looking goalies you can remember?

Like Hrudy here from that other thread.

I particularly like the red on the gear, given that red is about as non-Swedish as it gets. Maybe he's a Scania nationalist?

Given that he’s pretty much as much of a Stockholmer as you’re likely to meet, I’d say definitely no. However, it seems he brought his Djurgården’s IF gear to the national team:

Never really realized goalies would keep their gear from previous teams (he hasn't been playing for Djurgarden for 4 years by the time of Wien96). Neat.

Interesting. I would have guessed it was due to convenience of transportation if perhaps he had his old stuff laying around in Stockholm, but according to Eliteprospects, he wasn’t on the Vienna 1996 roster. In fact, by that time he doesn’t seem to have played in the World Championships since 1993.

My guess is that the image was captured in the 1992 World Championships when he was still with Djurgården (and voted goaltender of the tournament). It looks almost identical to this image in a sticker collection for the 1993 World Championships, however he was wearing white gear as he did with the Flyers in the 1993 WHCs.

Not sure what's worse here, the mismatched pads or getting to see more of Thomas's mug.

J.S. Gigure looking like the goalie embodiment of the junk drawer in one of his eight games as a Whaler.

Bob Essensa looked at the Coyotes colour scheme and thought "That tiny crescent moon on the Coyote's chest? I'm gonna match my gear to THAT."

Something about this Trevor Kidd setup just gives me horror-clown vibes. Faygo, anyone?

Mike Mckenna shown here with his recycled pads made from old melted down Happy Meals toys. These ones here are a mix of Beetleborgs and Skydancers.

Jason Muzatti played one game as a San Jose Shark, and I really, really hope it was against the Rangers.

The bear claws on the pads really sell this one.

I get what Price was going for but this is just terrifying. Those puckered lips at the bottom... was that necessary? I should never have to type 'Puckered Lips' in a hockey setting. Or any setting really. Is it a pun? PUCK-ered lips? Damnit Carey.

A rare shot of Dan Cloutier during his Kings tenure.

I don't know who this is or what the story is but I assume it's the fault of Garth Snow or Alan Wang.

Say what you want about him but John Vanbiesbrouk was the widest looking NHL goalie of all-time. No one can take that away from him. He was 5'8 and 170-something pounds but he looks mighty voluminous here. Is it the weird squashed mask? What's going on with the perspective here?

Given Giguere was an emergency call up, it makes sense that he’d use his Mooseheads pads.

And I’ve lost hours on that site.

It’s Dan Blackburn. I can’t remember what exactly but he injured his catching hand or wrist and he couldn’t turn it up. He went with the double blocker set up but never got back into a NHL game after his injury.

Here's him in the Winter Classic old timers game. Gotta feel for the guy, had two rough seasons with the Rangers when they were at their worst, then sustains such an injury (think it was nerve damage) that he can no longer play in the league again. He retires, and the Rangers get Lundqvist and turn their franchise around. Wrong place, wrong time, bad luck for Blackburn

My friends, I present to you, the infamous Hannu Kamppuri. Credit to Goalies Archive on this one. I too have lost hours there. I’d never heard of this spectacular-looking goalie until last night. It’s hard to pick a favorite part of the setup, but I’m leaning towards the Cooper bucket. Seems like a slightly different model than the Messier/Lemieux (80’s) model. In fact, I think I may have had it as my first ever helmet growing up. Is it me, or does it look like his pads are on the wrong sides?

Side note: any memories of Kamppuri as a goalie?

Some of the card sets had even photos as far from 5 year from the past. Especially some of the Euro cardsets were really poorly made. My favourite from that cardset is Sakari Lindfors. It is really hard to guess that he is representing Finland (from the gear).

Thats HIFK mask. Those pads and blocker are also from HIFK. Roskapankki was(is) a suburb pub from then slightly notorius suburb. Roskapankki name refers to Finnish economic depression from early 90´s. Word to word translation is Trashbank, but it seems that the direct translation is bad bank. There is Karjala beer add. He is wearing traditional goalie number 19.

There is ton of things that represent weirdly the early 90´s Finland.
