Yeah I don’t blame him either.
Different leadership styles but clearly he cares.
He also knows that his legacy depends on winning a Cup or two and all of the guys above him on the all time list had a Cup by his age. And who knows if he ever gets a chance as good as that in his career. Sports is so unpredictable and a lot of things went right for the team to get to game 7.

I had my questions about McDavid's leadership ability up until last year. I am a Canuck fan so only followed McDavid lightly and through others evaluation of him and I thought he was a whiner. Until the Canucks series when he took those 2 crosschecks from Soucy and Zadorov and he stated the next day that it was just playoff hockey. I am not getting into an argument if he deserved it or a suspension was warranted, I just respected what he said. The clip on Amazon in the finals, again I believe he deserves some respect. He showed some emotion which many people complain he never does. The way McDavid plays and dominates the games and HAS shown passion should be commended. He is a special player and knows the Stanley Cup will cement his legacy and is driven to achieve that goal. I for one hope he does not achieve that goal as I want the Canucks to win lol.

If any one thinks that this stuff isn’t always going in playoff locker rooms after big losses, you’re delusional

Good grief
our team captain in beer league had a full fledged meltdown because he fired a waist high pass at a guy and he couldn't knock it into the net.

This happens in all sports at all levels.

Trying to get the cup was more so a reference to him not wanting to get into a lull of comfort with the oilers being so close last year and believing they can coast in the reg season/not form winning habits to get the cup

Mcdavid making the speech down 2-0 or 3-0 and then making having the series go to game 7 where they lose 2-1 is what makes it so impressive along with his individual dominance in game 4 and 5 wins.

If the series was 1-1 or 2-2 then anyone can make that speech and go out and try to win. Making it when your basically written out and everyone is sayings its panthers in 4 was ballsy, with him almost getting it done

This year his focus will be finding how he and the oilers can try to get it done when so close. Other teams are trying to get to that stage and oilers are trying to push 1 step forward, while panthers want to retain and defend.

Everyone wants to win, but not everyone is as close to winning as the oilers were last year.
Players go their entire careers without getting as close as the Oilers did last year.

I loved the fire, personally.

Better than this speech by Zetterberg. Different level of importance but man oh man what a snooze fest Z's speech was.

I'm a Red Wings fan and I kept questioning Z's leadership qualities. Maybe it was due to having Yzerman and then Lidstrom as captains... but Z felt like a dip in leadership pedigree

I don't have an issue with what CMD was doing, but the fact his teammates just wandered around like he was on mute made the video really weird.

I mean, their actions almost made it look like it was a video clip of a villain doing a monologue.

No problem with him yelling, a leader needs to keep his team accountable. The only weird thing is everyone else in the room just going about their business and acting like he's not even there.
I think you made your own point by mistake.

Leaders dont scream and swear like that. Why? The team just ignored it for what it was. A temper tantrum. If that was a scrub instead of the best player in the world the leader in the locker room would have escorted him out of the dressing room and calmed him down.

I can promise you every player on the Oilers loved that he did that. It is the Cup finals. When a top player like that on your hockey team talks or rightfully gets angry when your team is not playing up to it's potential especially in games that are that important, every player listens and it means a ton because they are not usually the most vocal guys. Anyone that thinks players ignored him or were not listening are completely clueless.

Or maybe it's both? I've heard plenty of stories of leaders quietly walking out of the room and this fires up the teammates who feel bad to have let their leader down. I've heard plenty of stories of leaders screaming, kicking and throwing things and stories from others in the room about how this fired up the team.

But I kinda agree that this is a weird mixture of both. It shows passion from CMD, but the teammates are kinda behaving like it's a temper tantrum that they'd prefer to ignore. Not a single person added or seemed to pull energy from what CMD was doing.
