GDT: Frozen Four

It's the funniest thing when refs don't want to "decide the game" by calling penalties (which are part of the game) and then decide the game by not making an obvious call that leads directly to the OT winner. Absolutely brutal. Across all levels.

Just do your job man. Call the penalties you see. That's literally all you need to do.
Wasn’t even just that game either. The WMU game was the same exact thing. Only game I saw that actually got called somewhat correctly was OSU game.

I would be livid if I were a Golden Rodent fan...the trip on Chesney in the neutral zone that immediately transitioned into the OT game winner was bad, the not allowing the goalie to work out his equipment issue (and forcing the backup in cold to get scored on on the only shot he sees) was brutal, and the no call on the cross check/mugging/rape behind the net that then went right to the front of the net for a goal was awful. Fortunately, I am not a rodent fan and did enjoy watching a couple kids my son played junior with play a prominent role in UMass winning.

How is Moore going to benefit from another year at Minny?

I'll give it a try. I'll start with what his does really well at the NCAA level-

Face-offs. Last night he was 21-8 for 72% while the rest of his team was 18-40 for 45%. He's consistently done well in the dot.
Puck transporting. One reason he's on PP1 is to gain the zone.
Puck retrieval. Another reason he's on PP1 but this is also a positive at even strength.
Defensive play. Yes, Moore lacks hockey IQ with the puck but that doesn't translate to his defensive play.
Good hand to eye coordination with 3 slot defelections for goals this season.
Not afraid to go to the net.

The Minny PP1 ran through Snuggerud, Rinzel, and Wood with Moore mostly as a net front presence. If they don't return, Moore could be a player the PP features. His abilty to score down low needs work whether it's a one-timer, bumper shot, or rebounds. This would be an area he needs to improve. Also, f he returns he'll also get more PK responsibility. And if he returns, perhaps his decision making with the puck improves, even if on the margins. But don't count on it.

I believe he can improve the above with a year in Rockford and another year in Minny won't move the needle much.
I actually agree with your assessment. I don’t think he’s ever going to be an offensive player and he could use a step up in his defensive responsibilities in RFD against tougher players.

The only way you think going back makes sense is that you feel like the offense might come and if he goes pro then he’ll be pigeon holed as a defensive specialist for the rest of his career. I personally think he’ll be that anyway so let’s just get a step up in competition with pro hockey.

He whacks at the puck and misses and then smokes the guys skates. Then he loses an edge. It doesn’t necessarily look like he trips him but I guarantee it contributed to it.
It's pretty grainy here at work, so tough to see, but it looked like his skates were coming out from under him before the stick hit him, and the stick looks like it hits his shin pads, not his skates.

This is exactly why you could probably go either way (back to college or off to Rockford) and make an arguement for either. In fairness, there is nothing stopping Moore from gaining a role on the PP in Rockford and getting better offensively there. I don't think the forward talent is likely to be so spectacular that Moore gets no PP time...IF Seney and Guttman get resigned, other than Lardis coming in, I don't see a lot of guys obviously better PP options than Moore.

I don't think the Hawks had him rated in the top-10 back in 2023 because they envisioned him as a pure defensive specialist. They think he can drive offense and create offensively. They won't pigeon hole him in a 3rd line Rockford role -- they'll put him in positions to produce offensively.

I'm a big believer in compounding confidence for young players. So if the idea is that you want to see Moore's counting stats improve before he takes that next step, then going back would make sense. But I believe the Hawks have already said they weren't worried about his production bc they liked his underlying numbers and felt he wasn't getting bounces.

There are benefits to going back and to turning pro. I don't think either choice carries significant risk of negatively impacting his development. It does seem, strategically, that CHI wants these kids player pro and being hands-on in their development as soon as possible though.

Not sure how the Hawks eval of Moore before the 2023 draft impacts what they are thinking now. There are uncountable number of players who predraft an organization thought would continue to develop who never figure the game out at the professional level.

With that said, agree that the Hawks will give Moore every chance to develop, and hopefully he turns into a solid middle 6 option.

Here's the clearest replay of it. Starts at the 1:10 mark. Hits the toe of the skate clear as day, then the stick bounces up to around knee level. You can actually see the stick vibrate hahahaha.

Penalty clear as day, ref right there at the blue line. That's a penalty that has to be called 100% of the time--and I fully acknowledge that we get the benefit of watching from multiple angles and replays. Does the NCAA have embellishment minors? If so take them both if you don't have the balls to call that in OT. But that tripping penalty has to be called, no other way to say it. Just my two cents.

Point being, the Hawks viewed Moore extremely favourably in his draft year and I don't think anything has happened since for them to have soured on him. Moore turning pro this year won't result in CHI forcing him into a checker role.

It's a trip 100% but they missed it.
Oh well, that's hockey.

Minnesota should have wrapped that game up in the 3rd and not allow a bad non-call to end their season.

Moore and Rinzel look as pro-ready as they are going to be. I'm not sure Moore will be a top 6 forward in the pro's, but he will have the chance to prove he can be in the AHL. I'm sure KD is talking it over with them right now. If Rinzel goes back, I'd be a bit worried he flee's in the following summer

The problem is it was 2 other pretty bad calls in the 3rd that led up to that final sequence mattering. Instead of allowing the goalie time to fix an equipment issue, the refs forced the cold backup in who got scored on the only shot he saw. One of the third period goals was a pretty obvious crosscheck to take the Minny defender off the puck and slide it to a wide open guy in front of the net who scored. I am far from a Gopher fan and watched to get a look at Rinzel & Moore while also hoping to see the Rodents lose.

I can still see Moore in the top 6, at wing. I think he could be a pretty decent complimentary player.

Moore has been a guy who has “good underlying numbers but isn’t getting the bounces” his whole career. The speed he has creates a lot but this is just who he is. I think he’ll be a 20-40 point guy in the NHL.

And yet Thompson tonight has 1g and 2 primary assists as Denver up 4-0on Providence in 3rd period ..I think Hawks need offense producers not just 1a guys who just are Even or -1 especially when it counts most in eliminatiom games. We want guys elevating big not just JAGs...(JAG=Just another giy) ...because the opps seem to have big scoring prospects they drafted who rise to star intje spotlight big games...not fail.
