Nice win. I'm putting my dog of 16 1/2 years to sleep tomorrow so the Oilers pulling this out gave me a little happiness before the devastation that tomorrow is going to bring so thanks for this Oilers. Have a good night HFOil
Shit man. I’m sorry to hear that.

I have a younger dog and the thought of him no longer being in my life one day absolutely terrifies me.

You’ll always have the time you spent together, and so will he. He’ll just be watching you from a bit further away from now on.

Sending you my best man

Yes I had caught that interview awhile back. I found it interesting how much needs to be unlearned before changing habits. And considering Stu started work in the summer and it's all new to him, I wonder if he can refine his game. His reputation with Helly definitely gives me optimism on that front.
The unlearning is the movement aspect not specifically technique. I equate Francillia as an efficiency expert aiding at essentially the cellular level to help goaltenders operate smoother while mitigating injury risk of what is described as very unnatural, stress induced movements for a human.

Right I guess there is a distinction there. But smoother movement equals better smoother technique possibly, so without getting into the weeds I throw them into the catch-all phrase. No one around here even wants to hear about it any ways unfortunately. Minds are made up lol.

It's movement but also the injuries caused by the physical demands (often unnatural movements) of the position. This is a good article that equates the rash of goaltender injuries to Tommy John surgery commonplace for baseball pitchers.

Goaltender development and coaching continues to become more and more sophisticated. It's like a Formula One pit crew with a team of specialists who coach mental aptitude; physical mobility and strength; technique; and increasingly the bio-mechanical specialization work done by Francillia. Skinner is not an innate, natural athletic type so that is a whole other dimension that's challenging.

Hyman is a f***ing warrior... even when he wasn't connecting early on in the season... never a doubt that he was giving it his all and no player on the Oilers gives 100% more often than Hyman.
8 goals in 7 games since Team Canada snub, and scores against both Sweeney and Armstrongs teams.

What a beast.

Interesting. Wonder if someone like Demko would also hire this guy. This guy obviously knows his stuff. And I'm glad to see Stu doing anything he can do get better.

He was our best player during last year's October-November slump, IMO. Dude has heart.
Yes he was. When the Oilers are at their worst, he's the guy that can break through the momentum of the team and try to single handedly change it.

Yup, I seem to recall Kane was another who was still productive then, but I might be thinking of another time frame

Demko has worked (or might still be working) with Francilia. I can't say I understand Demko's injury issues but he's a highly athletic goaltender doing unnatural body movements required of the position. The most recent injury is described as a 'freak injury' and he's playing again. But wonder if there's risk of a chronic injury risk.

It's in Skinner's and the team's mutual best interests to support this guy's development within any and all aspects. He stepped up when the big money external solution wilted over the responsibility to anchor this window team's need for stable goaltending

Out dueling Swayman isn't the statement you think it is this year. It's more akin to saying that a defenseman looks better than Cody Ceci.

Analytically - every goaltender in the league out duels Swayman this year.

You have to use GSAA/60, flat GSAA is deceptive as it is cumulative for the whole season like for example this table would lead you to believe Devon Levi is a better goalie than Skinner when his GSAA/60 is 494% worse.

Using GSAA/60 and a minimum of 300 minutes played.

Skinner sits at 42nd with a GSAA/60 of -0.16.

He is sandwiched by 2 Stanley Cup winning goaltenders with Binnington at 41st with a GSAA/60 of -0.14 and Bobrovsky at 43rd with a GSAA/60 of -0.21.

Pretty terrible game by the Oilers, but, as others have said, they deserved better in the previous match (well, everyone except Bouchard and S. Skinner), so this one was like the hockey gods being fair.

Did Perry or Ryan even play? I didn't notice them. Janmark kind of had a rough night. I know Arvidsson's just back, but he did not look good. They need to figure out the bottom six.

I am now officially scared whenever Jeff Skinner has the puck in his own end.

Great to see Ekholm get the novelty time goal. He's been fighting it a bit lately.

Senators are rolling too. Sunday will be an interesting game. Ullmark is playing at a freak level

I was almost going to say at a tardigrade81 type level, but not quite willing to go that far with the compliment

Felt like the team started strong, great first shift then the goal happened. Feels like this game was proof positive that goaltending, or lack of it, is mentally hurting this team. It took 20 mins for everyone to get back into the game imo.
If that is the case, it’s on them.

Oh, well if he's only 42nd, right on. I'm glad we have him in one of the too 32 spots on what is supposed to be a top 5 team then. Why was I worried? Oh wait, that's still 30 spots too low.

Speaking of GSAA/60 and cup winning goaltenders - are you aware that not once in the last 5 years has a goaltender outside of the top 15 GSAA/60 in the regular season won the Stanley Cup?

Does that trend not concern you when our guy is 42nd?

- Arvidsson was awful tonight. He was so skittish and scared. (he's excused for for now. Hope it gets better)
- Mcdrai line is why we won. It doesn’t get a ton of love here, always shot down
- Jeff Skinner is cooked. Too slow. We won't win with him in the line up. He ain't a "4th line" guy
- Ty Embersson has arrived. This kid keeps getting better and is going to show why he's more than just a number 6.
