^^^ you guys get it.

You guys post like a bunch of primas who’s goalie once asked you to backcheck.

I tried to respond to @CanadasTeam99 and @TB12 in the GDT but it was closed… I notice now you have nothing to say about Skinner after he out-dualed a guy the same age as him who’s making 3X. He was $8.5M worth of leaky on goals 1 and 2.

@GhostfaceWu: goalies don’t have elastic 1ft lone necks. The entire position is played based on odds… you get yourself into position where the guy has to beat you or make a perfect shot. Shortside, downlow and off the earlobe and in is a perfect shot… and when someone makes it, there is nothing you can do about it without overcommitting short side and giving up way more options. Skinner was and should be in RVH when the play is downlow like that…. and I actually hate RVH… it’s way overused… I teach it with tonnes of cautionary tales, but this was not one… on Saturday AM 3v3 I don’t even let guys attempt that shot unless they can take it without hitting my head… there’s just nothing you can do about it except get concussed, which Skinner was willing to risk. This comment just shows you haven’t played in the last decade or have zero clue what good goaltending actually looks like… sorry… but you are so wrong.
I gave skinner props every win the last while, but I don't see it with him. He's done to me. I want him as the backup and don't want to waste another prime cup run

When he can play consistent over a full year without falling into his multi game 0.800 slides, I'll give him credit

The bottom line is, this team, more often than not, wins in spite of him

He does not inspire confidence at all to me when I watch him play. He's not clutch.

I remember maybe 3-4 games tops in two years where I said man skinner held us in this game. That's not enough.

You cannot have a goalie go full ***ard in the playoffs because it's not long like an 82 game season. He got bailed out round one

I'd rather not take the chance again. I've seen enough.

Stats don't lie. Call me when he even hits the average company in metrics. He's still down at the bottom

That's all. This org should grow him as a backup. If he wants a raise, go pound sand

Stu had a good second half to the game. Props to him. He deserves his props when he does well. But, He needs to polish up his RVH and post work. The first goal tonight should have went in. It's a big pet peeve of mine, but staying on your knees in RVH when guys aren't a threat near the net is lazy goaltending akin to a player gliding back on a backcheck or making a wide turn instead of a stop and start. A player would get benched for that kind of lazy play and torn apart by the fans. Goaltenders shouldn't be any different. When the opposing player leaves the goal line/corner and wheels up the boards Stu has to get up and follow the play. Get up, get off the goal line and make a save. That corner was wide open the entire way. If he was out properly cutting off the angle it wouldn't have mattered if Drai deflects it.
Did you hear Debrusk talk about the RVH goal he let in against Florida? That's how Schwartz teaches it. I'm not a goalie guru, so I don't know if RVH is the right play there or not, but if you have issue with that in particular, it's a Schwartz directive.

I've wondered about this since July as Skinner is just not a KK player in any shape or form. It never made sense. I think dialog in the org must've been severely lacking. Its the trouble with handing the keys with some of these Analytics Guru types (JJ) They think their the smartest person in the room but lose sight of even basic things. The whole offseason was a mess. But I wouldn't blame KK in anyway either. I'm not convinced either of McD or Drai are keen on having a half ice player on their line either.

Didn't think much of Arvid tonight either. Just don't feel he adds much of anything.

Hard to really know what JJ is thinking.

Skinner is a proven goal scorer. But I doubt he was an analytics darling. Josh Brown certainly wasn’t. So who really knows how JJ made decisions. Its kind of all over the place. I agree that JS isn’t a KK type of player though.

Heck of a comeback.

We need to get Jeff Skinner going. Dude can't be playing 8 minutes a night.
What we need is org management that actually properly assesses what a player is, and what he will be in a certain lineup. A punter like me had that sussed totally, and the Billion buck org didn't? For shame.

There is no need to get Skinner going, Its a team sport and a pro league where its incumbent on players themselves to get going. The org started Skinner in topsix in preseason and regular season. His performance and work rate showed he wasn't ready for it. He had trouble even playing the minutes. This guy is too bad in D and NZ to be playing the schemes were playing.

Ekholm is such a beast.

My friend ski races with his wife and when they met they were like "oh, what does your husband do?" And Mrs. Ekholm was like "he's involved in hockey."

Like no bragging. No ego. They were friends for 2 months before my friend knew that this blonde lady with an accent was married to Ekholm haha

They love Edmonton. They love winter. This guy has been the biggest beauty add to this team and city in a decade or more.
Ekholm is the perfect gentleman and the stereotypical Swede - competitive AF in their field but relaxed and easygoing IRL.

If you’re a father or mother, this is who you’d want your daughter marrying. If you’re a brother or sister, this is the kind of brother in law you’d want. If you’re a husband, this is the kind of guy your wife would tell you not to worry about and you wouldn’t actually have to worry about it.

Not sure why you're quoting me here but f you're teaching goalies to be in a reverse VH when a player is the only player in the zone and there's no backdoor pressure then you should rethink your teaching methods.

Its refreshing anyway to have the opponent goalie allowing the worst goal of the game for once. What an absolutely brutal goal for Swayman to let in. Especially at the point in game. That said overall Swayman had a lot of work and Frankly Bruins would miss playoffs without him. pretty much guaranteed. They are that bad now. Its crazy that the two teams that spent the most in the offseason, bruins and Preds, are this bad.

Out dueling Swayman isn't the statement you think it is this year. It's more akin to saying that a defenseman looks better than Cody Ceci.

Analytically - every goaltender in the league out duels Swayman this year.

Well the RVH isn’t really designed to seal all holes. On my initial view of that goal. I’m like Stu literally gave only that one sliver of a hole by his side mask and above his shoulder. And the Puck deflected perfectly into the one hole he gave him. Upon further thought I realized he was down and in the RVH at a position that TRADITIONALLY you don’t want to be in the RVH, with a shooter so far out from you and with time to push across. But then i remembered a heated discussion amongst a goalie and goalie coach regarding that I heard on a podcast. And it’s actually a bit of debate there. Cause if he isn’t in the RVH he will cover the exact hole that puck got deflected into, if he’s standing upright. But then standing upright leads to small holes at 5 hole and under his arms… so it’s like which hole to do you want to give up? For a Big goalie like Stu cause in the RVH he covers a huge portion of that ear hole side, I can see why he defaults to that. But if he’s in the stand up in that position he has a better chance to react and cover any 5 holes that could be exposed….. so probably i lean towards he shouldn’t have been in the RVH there, but I can see why he personally would default to that compared to a smaller more quicker reacting goalie.

Agree with this… I do think he was screened on the play so stayed in a “safe/passive” mode, but bigger goalies do tend to over rely on RVH… it’s a pet peeve of mine. Get up and in attack position.

I been pretty high on Swayman but hes had a awful year. I think he likely rebounds at some point. But yeah the Hyman goal was woof. But … good … I don’t like the Bruins.

I understand it for trailing, but it's still the "go to" option for coaches which limits our offensive potential. Giving opposition only one line to worry about isn't a good long term solution.
I know but it’s used so situationally now, that I don’t think it hurts the depth of our lines that much.

He’s spent his entire NHL career playing for non competitive teams. It’s a big adjustment. It’s like going from being a cop in a towh of 300 people to being an officer in the DEA and having to follow stricter protocol in how to handle cases. Some people can’t make that jump.

He missed camp didn't he? Hasn't looked like the same goalie. He'll get back to form and the Bruins are sure needing it. Bruins club looks ready to implode. I was saying the same thing about the Rangers when they came threw here. Teams that think they are much better than they are. Without some of the players on that team who are the workboots that team would have had nothing tonight. The first line was awful.

Oh, I despise the Bruins with a passion, always have. So it worked out for me. Still wish they didn't even get a point. I don't understand what the plan is in Boston. Doesn't appear to be one. They thought THIS roster was gonna be good? how?

Was about to say this too in my last post…

I’m a smaller goalie. I like to be out attacking, because that’s what works.

I hate RVH because there’s 4-5 inches of space beside my head.

But as Fuhr would say… you’ve gotta give them something.

And what works for Skinner isn’t going to work for me… and even though I think it should, doesn’t mean what works for me, is the best odds for Skinner.

Haha .. wow. Some idiot just called in to CHED and said that Skinner reminds him of Luongo and suggested that Skinner would be the ideal captain for this team if only goalies were allowed to wear the C. What the actual f***?
I’m guessing the same person has been defending the behind the net goal the past 3 days here

For the record… I don’t think Skinner is the answer. But at 2.6 I’ve got time for him in tandem.

Also for the record… I don’t think some of you… you in particular… know F-all about goaltending.

well my old man was a pro goalie so I have a few insights from him through the years. Oh, and he coached for 20+ years so I gather a lot of my insights about the position from him.

He didn't love that goal, either, btw.
