I mean if the backup is playing a starter load, it’s either the starter sucks or the starter is injured and in our case, it’s obvious that it’s because our starter is injured.
It makes no sense to blame management for essentially not having a backup for a backup.
Given the contract he is about to make, he's a 1B, really. But anyway, that doesn't change the fact that one of the main reasons they probably missed the playoffs was that they didn't have a single other goalie who was capable of playing an NHL game. Lankinen has consistently turned into Cloutier when overplayed. He has 80% of the team's wins and simply ran out of gas.
They decided not to fix this throughout the season despite Demko clearly being a massive bandaid. This is among the decisions that make me question how serious they actually were about playoffs at the deadline. Seems more of a shot in the dark, that is looking to work out fairly predictably.
