Post-Game Talk: From Riches to Rags. Nucks lose 5-3

And Miller’s goal was salt in the wound today but he had already ended our season months back.

If one has to allocate blame for this cursed season, Miller the quitter can wear it. What a knob of a human being.

By the end of this road-trip, the results on the ice probably won't matter nearly as much. And Tocchet has confirmed that Pettersson and Hoglander will likely miss some time. And if so, that's game, set and match on the 2024-25 season.

So we're now looking at 'nuggets of optimism for next season. And in this game, that was clearly the play of Lekkerimaki and Mancini. Tocchet had Lekkerimaki out there in all situations, And although he was on the ice for those later Ranger goals, you can see that he's still a very special talent. He's the real deal and can only grow from these experiences.

As for Mancini, how can you not love the guy's effortless skating for such a big guy? The Rangers definitely gave up on this kid far too early. Like EP25, you see elements in his game that really get you excited.

The only downside to the rest of this year is that not making the playoff is going to hit Hughes hard. He's almost single-handedly trying to will his team into the post-season. So he'll be carrying the scars of disappointment into the off-season.

But big picture--things will be OK. And I'd far rather be in the Canucks spot than the Rangers right now.

.636 save % doesn't lie. despite several no hoper goals. If this was Silovs he would have been tarred and feathered...

One thing worth noting is that he has played more games this season than in any previous season and the most recent ones have been high pressure. He's going to have a few not-so-good games. Funny, it seems that all three of our goalies have had similar games this year...

They were missing the playoffs even if Pettersson and Hoglander were healthy. I will have very little patience for that type of rhetoric out of management unless it pertains to Demko or Hughes.

Those plays, obviously we needed better from those guys there, but also it’s like.. NY should have scored 1 goal this game.

For those mental lapses, NYR had more on some shifts than we did on those cumulative breakdowns.

Just sucks man. No puck luck and then the difference is Demko makes the save on the fourth one.

Yeah. The number of times we’ve won games we had no business winning - in large part because Lankinen held us in it - far outstrips the number of games we deserved to win and lost because of goaltending.

Sometimes, teams have to win one for their goalies, too. Too bad it couldn’t be today, but it happens.

For around 1million dollars, i am definitely not going to blame our goalie. I blame our first line center who decided its okay not to show up on the scoresheet in such an important game.

Although this game was a 'gut-punch', teams don't miss the playoffs based on the results in the last three weeks of the season. It's the cumulative results over an 82-game schedule.

This year's Canucks lost far too many key guys to injuries. They've been able to overcome a third period deficit and win, just once all year. Since the calendar year turned, they've been one of the most offensively-challenged teams in the league. And their OT record is one of NHL's worst at 5-11.

And when you check the roster that started the season in October, what's shocking is how many players on that opening night lineup aren't even in the organization any more. The Canucks have had vast, in-season changes to their personnel. And in transitioning their roster, they've become the 7th youngest team in the league.

So it just wasn't going to be their year. And I think Allvin and Rutherford knew it, long before the Miller trade went down. It'll be an intriguing off-season in VanCity.

He is, but they weren't good enough with him either...

Plenty of blame to go around. I would like someone to question the medical staff at the year end presser. What is their standard and how did they perform against it?
