If Boston is looking to move him and the goal is to get rid of salary, they would get like 25m off the books over the next 6 years and they could flip Soucy for an asset at the next deadline. Additionally, very few teams in the league can afford to buy that contract, it's the reason the Canucks were able to get him for a 3rd last season.

It would also accelerate any asset gains by 4 years or so if the goal is to flip Soucy at the deadline and try and contend while Pastrnak and McAvoy are on their current contracts. Soucy's contract is much more moveable than Zadorov, both in term and caphit.

There IS an argument that it would be a good idea for Boston to do it, but I don't know that the management would sell on him yet, or if they're considering a quick retool.
OK ! done, but we are sending you E.Lindholm back for Boeser

There was also reports that Zadorov felt insulted with Vancouver final offer to him during free agency. I know Z always said he wanted to stay in Van and probably thought the Canucks were willing to pay what Boston did ( they werent) so im not sure a reunion between Z and Canucks are a fit.

Zadorov loves every city is in until the moment he leaves.

Friedman on 32 thoughts speculates that perhaps Zadorov going back to Van would be a good fit.

Canucks pov: They need a huge upgrade on the top 4 and Big Z aint it. I dont think he is better than Soucy which is saying alot because Soucy has sucked this year.

I think the Canucks are looking for bigger fish to fill that massive need of an upgrade in the TOP4.

Big Z's contract is also a big no thanks. He got paid for a great playoff run but he was meh in Vancouver during the regular season and was even a healthy scratch. There were also talks that Van was going to flip him by the TDL after acquiring him in December.

Are Bosotn fans already unhappy with Z?
He's been fine imo. There's a bunch on our board who don't like him but honestly the entire team looks like they forgot how to play hockey so I have a hard time singling out the new guys when the returning players can't even get it together.

Most of us are very unhappy. The man has the agility of a tree and is one of the dumbest players i have ever seen. i never liked this guy in Buff or anywhere else. I pray Vancouver takes him back.

I don't want to do it, I'm just saying there's a universe where Boston does.

I was never huge on Zadorov or Lindholm in their time in Vancouver.

It was said for a chuckle, but not something I would mind happening.

NHL "insiders" are more NHL speculators at this point. They can't get any inside information they've moved to just constant speculation to fill time.

Well when you see the % of trades that come out of nowhere and it is only after the fact so many say that they knew something but just did not get around to report it

Hear me out, if it is true that the cap is going up crazy amounts. Then having a long term signed defenseman like that might actually be beneficial. Keep in mind, the cap might increase 20m in two seasons.

The fact that he has term might play into his favour.

He is fine. Montgomery had no defensive system this year.

Fans need to level set he is a 3rd pair defenseman not top 4 and accept the penalties. Was he a need in the offseason? Less so than a scoring top 6 winger. That is on Sweeney not Zadorov.

Spot on. He’s a good #5 who can step up and play to a second pairing level at times. He’s one of those guys where you have to separate the player from the contract. He’s never going to be remotely worth his contract, but he can still help you win. And it’s a bit easier to stomach when you’ve got some massive steals like Marchand and Lindholm (Hampus)

If the cap raises significantly (20+ million), he’ll still be overpaid. Just less drastically. He’s maybe worth like 3.0-3.5, so a 20-25% cap increase would mean he’s still only worth like 3.6-4.4

That's if the cap raises by 20+ million in the next two years. Considering the valuation of the teams going up so drastically, we should assume that the cap will increase to rise throughout his contract.

The cap can't keep rising up with gate revenues down.

Some folks have difficulty understanding this

Expansion, expansion, expansion. Throw two teams in Atlanta and Houston, cap spikes.

Back on topic, since cap is going up, rebuilding teams might have even more space to facilitate.

Zadorov at $3m certainly has value. But be has to be so bad that Boston wants to pay to get rid of him first.

But this early into the contract, management probably will give it atleast the year to see if it's a slow start or not.
