I think the most infamous version of this, is the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson Converse photoshoot. Where Magic went to Bird's property in Indiana to film a commercial for Cons and they got along great. Magic went to say what up to him pre-game to say whaddup, and whatever and Bird just outright ignored him. Told him later he needs to view Magic as an enemy on the court.

It’s really interesting how intense those rivalries were back then. Lakers v Celtics Bird Magic, then Detroit were very much the super heel group. Jordan hated the Pistons and Isiah and I think Isiah got left off the Olympic team because of grudges. That was such an intense era that started with Bird vs Magic and ended when Jordan retired.

I miss that passion in some ways.

I dont think he likes the drama, I think he just likes or wants to be the Alpha male and big dog in any room, so if things get leaked without his consent or knwoledge, he will react by trying to show everyone who the boss is.
I could absolutely see Miller as the guy that goes around telling everyone how much he hates drama.

Related: The only people I've ever heard say they "don't like drama" are by far the biggest sources of it.

Normal people feel absolutely no need to comment on the topic because they're never anywhere near it.

Still unsure if the 3 Canada fighters were part of the supposed group chat and if it was truly staged/planned.

If it was just the US players in a group chat talking about starting fights then it shouldn't be a big deal.
It was the Americans planning to try to fight off the whistle. The Canadians involved said post game that they didn't know it was happening but they loved it.

Yes because historically exhibition games commonly start off with 3 fights in 9 seconds. Riiiight. Sorry you're not seeing the publicity stunt for what it was. Worked like a charm though.
lol didnt you claim these games would have no intensity since they were exhibition games? now you're saying the intensity is because they were exhibition games? make up your mind dude

Doug Armstrong: “listen hockey gods. I know my 2 assistant coaches deboer and Cassidy had beef with the best goalie available to us thompson, but you know, old boys club, we’re cool right?”

Hockey gods: you shall be punished!

Tkachuks: create group chat, proceed to stage fight, get hurt, m.tkachuk decides to dress scratching a healthy kyle Connor and can’t play”

Hockey Gods: hold my beer

So let me get this straight. Matt Tkachuk stages a fight so he can look good. Picks a smaller non fighter, so he can win. Gets injured during the fight. Brags about the group chat to media upsetting his teammates. Then he insists on playing the final, only to be too hurt to actually play and leaves his team short handed. And they lose in OT.

Amazing

And Miller is the one getting the flack for not liking Tkachuk's behaviour. SMH

The Hockey fans are impossible to please, the whining is unbearable, nothing is ever good, now
Matthew created an incredible buzz but all people do is shit on him, Bettman is shit, 4 nations is shit
Sportsnet is shit, ESPN is shit, it goes on and on and on and on, imagine beeing in a room full of these
kind of negative people.
Start look at whats positive.

I don't care about b-ball, but wasn't the reason Isaiah was left home because he's an unlikable bitch?

I thought it was a power play but it’s hard to say. Those rivalries were all pretty next level.

Multiple things can be true at the same time. The Tkachuk brothers are kinda corny attention whores and JT Miller seems like a pain-in-the-ass energy stealing teammate. It's not mutually exclusive.

And yet I'm sure the cavemen at Team USA will still have him there at the Olympics next year, while a better player is off somewhere in the Caribbean.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was at all a logical choice to be left off the roster this year (one of his new teammates sure was), but you know they'll be icing all these guys and Sullivan on the bench because of all those cups he won 9-10 years before.

Maybe I’m a little old school minded but I don’t think Miller is wrong in saying they should’ve kept their chat private.

I’ve also seen people in here saying Miller should’ve talked to them in person rather than just saying to the media how he didn’t like it. Do we know for sure that Miller only spoke out to the media about his displeasure? Is there not a chance he told the boys afterwards he didn’t like it and also said something to Elliott about not liking it?
