Wouldn't the leafs just flip flop with that 3rd Atlantic team though? I guess there are too many variables at this point to really know. Just TCB and things will fall into place

Canes win, flyers lose. Good times. That puts Carolina 5 points out of the last wild card spot with 3 games in hand... I'm no math wizard (thanks for the first round Mike) but does that count as "controlling their destiny"? Is it still too early to even make that call?

every team in the league currently controls their own destiny

any team that wins out from here on out makes the playoffs, including arizona and colorado

Not necessarily. Even if they did, that team they "flip flopped" with would then be in contention for the wild-card. It's not really too complicated:

Metro: CLB, PIT, NYR are pretty much locks and would have to basically implode not to make the playoffs.
Atlantic: MTL is pretty much a lock, OTT is likely. 3rd spot up for grabs between BOS, TBL, TOR, and maybe FLA
WildCard1: Very likely WSH
WildCard2: PHI currently in that spot, but the teams battling for it are basically CAR and whichever teams out of BOS, TBL, TOR and FLA that don't get the 3rd spot in the Atlantic.

Canes aren't just competing with Philly. They have to pass Philly to even have a chance, but still need to be better than 3 out of 4 of those teams in the Atlantic as well. While the Canes are 5 points behind Philly for the last playoff spot, they are also only 5 points ahead of the worst team in the east as well so this will likely go down to the wire. Would have been nice to get at least a point in Pittsburgh, but a regulation loss to Tampa tonight is doubly bad, because not only would the Canes not get points, but Tampa would get 2 and they are a team we have to be better than for the Wildcard.

guys this thread was supposed to be a pol* free zone

Underrated post.

That was the worst game I've seen Slavin play, but he did get better. I don't think it was so much of them "shutting down" the best line in the NHL as it was them having an offnight and Ward shutting them down. It's like Chicago (and seemingly a lot of WC teams) just don't get up for the Canes, which I'm perfectly ok with. I did make the mistake of saying Toews was invisible, which lead to a goal 10 seconds later.

Dahlbeck was terrible. I'll cut the guy a little slack for getting thrown to the wolves, but **** he looked lost on every shift. No reason Tennyson should have been benched.

Jordan has really been coming on lately. A little competition with Skinner for who wants to carry this team.

I wonder if the Ryan on the top line experiment will be ending in the near future? Problem I guess is what are the options, particularly if Lindholm is hurt.

I'd give it another few games, foregone conclusion if Lindholm misses any time.

Forgot to ask, has Murphy always been that slow? For some reason I had it in my head that he had a little bit of speed, but he was looking like he could give Wiz a run for his money.

They're generating chances and the other lines are scoring and playing well. I don't see any reason to change it right now.

There was a fairly glaring reason why Tennyson was benched and he more than earned it.
