Tennis: French Open 2025

That was easily one of the best matches ever.

Alcaraz showed so much heart when he was trailing and Sinner playing amazing.

That's one thing I like most about the sport. You can really see when certain players dig in and show insane amounts of battle and fight.

This will be a tough one for Sinner to get over.

Five straight for Carlos in this rivalry and the monkey on Sinner's back must now be the size of a gorilla.

It's kinda funny how Sinner/Novak/Alcaraz kinda own each other right now. It's like Alcaraz is a fire pokemon, Novak is a water type and Sinner is grass lol

How much longer can they really go without the challenge system?

Sinner clearly got jobbed on that non service call and imagine if that happened say in the 5th set TB?

I get its tradition but at some point there will need to be a change imo.

I’m so glad I came home and recorded the next hour and a half because I would have been pissed at missing the last set. What a match! What I love about these guys is they are both aggressive so the points are entertaining.

Also, why no Hawkeye? Why???

Also #2: I’m so tired of a match ending and instead of showing the players handshake they show the boxes. Who wants to see them? Show them ten seconds later!

I'm pretty sure the French Open is the only remaining major that doesn't use the Hawkeye system to determine calls.

Not only that but I'm fairly certain almost every single ATP 1000 or even 500 uses the hawkeye system.

Heck I've seen clay tournaments use it and for the past few years they're even showing in and out calls on the live broadcast.

That's what's crazy. They would show the Hawkeye line call in the broadcast but the French Open wasn't using it because.... France I guess?

Coco's #1 now & Carlos may join her in the rankings.

Do you mean the actual rankings based on points? If so, both are remaining at #2.

Sinner actually widened his gap over Alcaraz, ironically enough.

That might have been the best, or at least most dramatic, match I've ever seen in my lifetime and I've been watching tennis for a good 35 years. Also, I'd say the greatest comeback of all time considering who Alcaraz's opponent was, being down two sets and 3 match points.

Hard to come up with any more words for that match outside of epic and is Alcaraz the most clutch player of all time at this age? His uncanny ability to win finals is unmatched, what a player, and the fight in Sinner despite the onslaught from Alcaraz and battling cramps was admirable or more aptly inspiring. This is why we love tennis, unbelievable match from both men.

It's incredible how we went from The Big 3 to then the Big 2 once Federer retired right into The New 2 Era without a hitch. I know it's a stretch to compare anybody to The Big 3 but we're seeing big 3 quality tennis from these 2 now and they are far and away better than the rest of the field. 6 in a row won by Alcaraz and Sinner and 7 of the last 8 going back to Wimbledon 2023. Tennis is in good hands going forward.

Good chance it'll be Sinner/Alcaraz fighting each other for the next decade on every grand slam barring injuries. Obviously we might have upsets for Alcaraz on hard courts like he had at BVDZ at US Open last year and the recent 2 losses to Novak/Zverev at the AO and Sinner being vulnerable at the French and Wimbledon since they're not his best surfaces. But good chance these two will have an arms race of Grand Slams for the next decade +. Sinner could've tied Carlos today too which is pretty jarring considering Alcaraz was up 4-1 a few months ago. 5-3 Alcaraz is still a fun race to monitor

Also @ the clutch thing, part of me was wondering how Sinner would respond to that 5-3 0-40 comeback Alcaraz had in the following game. I think I even said it here that I think Alcaraz would break back. A lot of this match reminded me of their Indian Wells and Bejing matches but on a different surface

Character & tenacity perseveres.

I'm cherry picking this post a little bit later but you can make the obvious dig at Sinner for the stuff that's happened with the suspension but there's no more character individual than him on tour in regards to being gracious towards competitors. After the garbage Sabalenka did yesterday to Coco, he should at least be afforded that by true tennis fans

It'll be predominantly those two but it'll be good for the sport if another guy pushes them at the slams like Murray and Wawrinka for a brief 3 or so year period did. Djokovic might very well be done winning slams, I think Zverev has already peaked and he lacks belief in the big matches even at peak form so I don't see it being him, Medvedev seems to be on a steep downward trajectory so we have to look at the younger generation. I think Draper has the game to threaten especially at Wimbledon due to his power game, people love Fonseca but I'm not enthralled with him as he seems very one dimensional although he's so young so there's time to improve, Rune has the talent but is a mess mentally who else? Not seeing much out there right now. It's the Sinner/Alcaraz era until further notice.

I think Draper will be in tier 2 behind Alcaraz and Sinner going into Wimbledon. He loves the grass conditions + playing at home + the tremendous year he's had since last year's Wimbledon. I might go throw a few bucks on him reaching the final and/or winning the whole thing.

And yeah agreed, I think Fonseca is really raw as a player but he's a tremendous watch. Rune is totally done imo unless he gets his head right. He's Alcaraz unhinged if that's a good example, everything that Carlos can do, I think Rune can do it as well but idk man, he's just not there as a player. If there's a hockey example, he reminds of Patty Laine. All world talent but it's not consistent enough to be thought of as the upper echelon of guys.

Novak is done imo, he won't beat Sinner on hard or clay and he won't beat Alcaraz on grass. Upsets and things happen to where draws open up but obviously speaking of the best on best matches. His form v Sinner the other day was incredible tbh, I even said that he probably beats everyone on tour with that match besides Sinner/Carlos. Maybe he sticks around and hopes that Sinner/Alcaraz get caught off guard at a Grand Slam for the next 1-2 years.
