Tennis: French Open 2025

Alcaraz and Swiatek are defending champions.

Carlos coming off a win over Sinner in Rome. Should be considered the favorite again.

Women's side should be fairly wide open.

Lots of Canadians in the qualifying draw. Andresscu off to a nice start handing out a double bagel this morning.

it seems like canada is unlucky with having stability with their stars, andresscu, raonic, FAA was on fire fall of 2023(?)
then catastrophic year after, eugenie, same story

Fearless predictions:

Sinner/Draper
Djokovic/Cerundolo

Fritz/Musetti
Alcaraz/Ruud

---------------------

Sinner/Cerundolo
Alcaraz/Musetti

--------------------

Alcaraz over Sinner

--------------------

Hate picking Fritz to get to the quarters, but he has a very easy draw to get there
Nole has a very sweet draw

On the women's side, picking Sabalenka but rooting for Paolini

Looked over the TV Schedule for the French Open starting this Sunday and it seems most of the games are on channels people get. Now we in America were under the displeasure of having a majority of the games on Tennis Channel which nobody gets before this year. Now that all the games are on TNT / TruTV there'll be a lot more accessibility here for more Americans especially when all the games are on MAX.

Nole's scorecard today

First serve: "A"--nobody hits their spots better than he still does.
Second serve: "B+"--good enough to depend on in the clutch
Return of serve: "B"--not what it used to be but still very good
Forehand: "A-"--less powerful but still a tactical weapon
Backhand: "C+"--broke down a lot in the first set, especially when he is swung wide
Groundstroke prowess: "A"--he grinded very well today against a player who was having a good day himself
Volleys: "C"-- unless it was a cupcake of a putaway, Nole didn't venture to the net much at all
Court coverage: "C+"---slower reaction times, especially on the backhand side
Clutchiness: "A+"--when he needs it, he gets it
Concentration: "A-"--less intense, but still focused

So does Nole's terrific Geneva win alter his chances of winning the French Open?

I would argue not much. His play today makes it appear more likely that he will reach the quarters, rather than lose early. Today he looked like he could potentially beat anybody in the Open...except for two players, Jannik and Carlitos and certainly not back to back.
