teams are technically not 'allowed' to discuss years or dollars until noon...so brooks etc reached out to the rangers to ask if the reported 4/6.9 deal was true and rangers said 'of course not that would be against the rules' lol

You don't give contract details if it's unofficial. Usually they'll give a heads up a player is heading somewhere although it's unofficial but contract details wouldn't be leaked right away if it's unofficial

4 years would make sense. Lundqvist and Staal both have 4 years left on their deals. Smith signed for 4 years. The Rangers throw all of their chips on the table and hope they can win one before Hank rides off into the sunset.
