With as deep as Atlantic has gotten, I can’t see how they would consider themselves contenders. A ton of key injuries to start, lack of depth on the farm, and they presumably will have a very hard time trying to catch up to 4th in the 2nd half.

I don’t personally see them as contenders but if Bergeron is back they kinda have to try, right? I think if they admit they need to re-tool then Pasta is as good as gone when his contract is up.

Wake up people.

Is Bear gone yet?

No?
Okay, what is your obsession with Bear? He doesn't strike me as anything other than an anodyne tweener who lost his roster spot- and thus any chance to offend.

Bear in Edmonton, where he became the whipping boy for a noticeable mistake at a crucial moment? Sure. Necas, Hamilton? Sure. But Ethan Bear? What am I missing?

Jersey is a shithole. Is this not widely accepted by now?

This has been talked about since early June. They definitely will look to deal him if they don’t feel they can get him locked up long-term. I don’t see the need to do it before the start of the season, though. I guess it depends how seriously they consider themselves contenders.
They'll go "own rental" and then trade after the season I'd think. Or at the deadline if they're struggling.

He'll be a UFA after the season; unless you mean trying to get something small for his rights.

After Necas being linked as part of Carolina's trade package for Tkachuk, I'm wondering if Carolina hasn't resigned him yet because they still want to trade Necas for someone. They're probably hoping some trade opportunity falls in their lap if so.

Since Meier has been mentioned before on our board, it'd be nice if we could get him if he was available. He'd be worth it. Necas+2023 1st round pick+ or so. I'm thinking at this point, Meier is gonna play the upcoming season with the Sharks, but if the Sharks are worried he won't resign long term, it'd be smart to trade him.

Timo Meier's backheavy 6M AAV contract will pay him 10M real money this year and will be followed by a 10M QO that takes him straight to UFA (or, he goes UFA a year early if he's not tendered his QO).

I don't want so stupid player who would do anything but take his QO in these circumstances, if he gets offered it.

Newport, Klingberg's new representation, was Barrie's when he signed that 1-year deal with the Oilers.

Just saying.

Burns, Pesce, Coghlan, Chatfield and Klingberg on the right side, seems like Hamilton, Faulk, Pesce and TVR all over again.

I suppose Pesce could play the left side if need be…heh.

I mean a
Slavin-Burns
Pesce-Klingberg
Skjei-Coghlan/Chatfield

set would be pretty sick

but.... even buying out Gardiner we would have a really hard time making Necas and Klingberg work for 1 year. Moving cap is so expensive that a team would rather trade one of the better 2 way forwards in the league for a 2nd and 3rd than pay the prices. I doubt we are in running to pay up to dump him.

if they could get out from under Gardiner and Martinook, that’d give them what just under $10M?

Say worst case, you have to give Necas $4M, give Klingberg $5M x 1 and plug the Martinook hole with Dzinge/ELC guy/ or UFA plug at $750K?

Svechnikov-Aho-Jarvis
Pacioretty-Kotkaniemi-Necas
Teravainen-Staal-Fast
$750K-Drury-Kase

Slavin-Burns
Pesce-Klingberg
Skjei-Coghlan

Both PP units would prob be amazing…PK, not so much. No room to carry an extra D or 13th F either.

Fun to dream, but that’s quite unlikely. I don’t want to think what it would take to get out from under then Gardiner contract clean as well as 2yrs of Martinook.

The Canes could always just trade Pesce + Morrow for JT Miller and try to win every game 6-5.

Meier could make sense still.

Patches - Aho - Meier
Svech - KK - Jarvis
TT - Staal - Fast
Pedersen - Drury - Kase

Slavin - Burns
Skjei - Pesce
Coghlan - Chatfield

He sucked in EDM, he came here, sucked, ended up a healthy scratch, still got his QO which was about double his value, then files for arbitration because it's not enough?
That's why.

Between Bear and Martinook, we have over 4 million tied up in useless.

Necas has issues, but if that 2.2 keeps us from being able to re-sign Necas, that's stupid. I mean I geuss he can't be worse than cole or smith, but 2.2 for a bottom pair half the time healthy scratch just grates me.

Well, $8M in useless if you add Gardiner. But I’m assuming that one going to work itself out sometime soon.

At least Gardiner was a bill of goods.

Martinook was just dumb, and Bear we should have just not QO'd.

I think it’s obvious at this point that Martinook was brought back as fan service to try and calm things down after some fans were hot that we signed TDA. Of course, we still could’ve done that without giving him a f***ing 3-year deal, but alas.

I’ll give the FO the benefit of the doubt right now as they’ve done a good job so far this off-season. But I’m really curious what their gameplan is with Necas going forward with $6.2 million tied up in Bear and Gardiner. There’s no way that both are still on the team come opening night … right?

Dude IDK. thats a LOT of cap on just.... nothing. Gards is a problem that isn't really of their own making but Bear is. Cup winning teams can't have this kind of dead weight. We chuckled at 10M tied up with who? Jersey was it?

6m on these tow is really bad
