Most of these deals don't kick in until next year, so that will help a bit, but I guess there could be some other moves coming

There $6.4 m over cap now I think, but have until the end of the offseason to get under and are allowed to be 10% over at this point.

I guess we could help them out by taking Hedman...

That's counting Seabrook's 6.875M LTIR deal.

They are under the cap with a full roster

Warm bodies for the lower lines. Won't be liabilities. I think it's fine.
Matthews and Nylander have 2 seasons left to UFA and Tavares and Marner have 3 years left to UFA. If they don't take a meaningful step forward this season then at the very least Matthews and Nylander refuse to commit to a contract extension. The Leafs will then be forced to either trade them next season or risk letting them walk.

Gaudette and Aube-Kubel are undersized depth forwards who probably don't improve the bottom six much or push them over the edge in the playoffs. It seems like the wrong kinds of players to add given the contract status of their core stars and the need to demonstrate to them compelling reasons to sign contract extensions.

Devils & NYI are the anticipated landing spot for Johnny Gaudreau.

It's funny to see OTT-DET and maybe NJD loading up given the poll activity on who is next to break out.

BUF sort of looking at integrating their AHL guys like Quinn and Peterka.

Not a whole lot you can do with limited cap space. I don't think these were intended to be impact moves, just roster maintenance.

Yes, things are cyclical and the pendulum is starting to swing to some of the teams that have been underperforming for years while some of the top teams start to fall off.

I carried my share of negativity around Dorion but dam... maybe he WAS being held back.

I think it is a combination of Melnyk interference but also, Dorion was an amateur and made some mistakes. He was given lots of money to spend but spent it incorrectly as we can see with his correcting his own mistakes.

I think the answer is Dorion is and always has been a smart hockey guy who just needed to make mistakes, learn from them , and then gain enough experience to become a better G.M.

Buff could still score Patrick Kane who is rumoured to want out of Chicago now.
