Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Nobody should ever be facetious on a message board.

You are misrepresenting the stats. Ottwa was good during the regular season because Giroux was literally the top faceoff taker in the whole league. We were 16/16 in the playoffs with 43.4%. Stutzle took 32 faceoffs (less than 10% of the 341 total faceoffs in the series), 24 of which were in the offensive zone or neutral zone.
You are misrepresenting things. Tavares, Matthews are 2 of the very best in the league.

I know Toronto is elite at faceoffs. We were also elite during the regular season (almost entirely because of Giroux). If we lose Giroux, we won't be very good. Norris was also pretty good, but we traded him for Cozens. Cozens is 50% during the regular season. Pinto takes a lot of draws as well and is 50%. Stutzle took barely any draws (an average of 5/game) and was just under 48%.

Someone like Kulak (EDM will have cap troubles this off season) could be a decent trade target. If Dallas decides they don't want to keep Lundqvist, I wonder if he'd be worth a shot.

I don't envy Staios trying to improve this team with what we've got. In my opinion, we need an impact winger desperately but we don't have the cap space or the expendable assets to acquire one. Also, as Staios alluded to, literally everyone in the league wants a top 6 forward.

The best way to speed up a rebuild is to acquire FAs (which cost nothing) and trade excess players for assets. Toronto is an example of a team that would not be where it is without several FA signings.

Keeping in mind we're unlikely to attract any high end FA, and we don't have a lot assets (and we're losing a 1st for nothing), I think our only move will be a couple depth signings.

I hope one of Greig/Pinto make serious leaps over the summer because there's a top 6 spot for the taking.

I'd like to see Pius Suter get a shot at the top 6.

Suter (fa) - Stutzle - Zetterlund
Tkachuk - Cozens - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Jeannot (fa) - Giroux - Perron
MacEwan

If Fabbro is available at a reasonable price and Perbix can be had, I'd deal Jensen and make over the right side D:

Sanderson - Fabbro (fa)
Chabot - Zub
Kleven - Perbix (fa)
Matinpalo

If 3M is the real number for Giroux, with Mantinpalo at 875k, and 5 depth players at an average of 1M each (Cousins, Gaudette, new players, etc), that leaves us 9.5M to sign Merilainen, Kleven, and Zetterlund.
