Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Does Marner hate money in this scenario? I can’t understand why else he’d choose to forgo 4 million dollars a year.
I agree; he most likely would not give up millions to be on a SC contender rather than the TML next season. That's why I said a "pipe dream".

Here's a thought: If we go far in the playoffs this season, perhaps Marner would sign here for less ($8-9M) to be our better RW with Stutzle and Tkachuk. A pipe dream for sure.
He’s not signing for anything less than 13 I would think.

Hopefully, Zetterlund can be that upgrade internally. I'm not saying he is a first line winger, but it's rare for first lines to have 3 true first liners together.

The way that I look at it is that we have three pairs, Tkachuk+Stu and Cozens+Batherson, and Pinto+Amadio. Right now, Giroux and Perron are both complementary guys on those top lines, but they are also both older players who are likely to decline.

I don't think they would ever walk away from Giroux, and with Zetterlund having a decent case through arbitration, I don't think we have room to add another forward cap wise.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-XXXX
Zetterlund-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Amadio

We have the opportunity to do something special with 6.5 million coming off. The cap's increase can go to Zetterlund and Kleven's extensions. That gives us about 10 million to work with (Giroux +Forsberg)

Here are the facts:

1. If we want to rise and be a contender, we have to allocate the 9 million of Giroux and Perron elsewhere.
2. Ottawa probably will want to remain loyal to Giroux since he chose us instead of a contender and he can still play.
3. Giroux and Perron are 37 and 38 next year with diminished skating. We will likely have to only keep 1. Money is on Giroux
4. Ottawa will probably make a decision to go one of two ways in the off-season:
i) Utilize their cap to get a big ticket forward addition
ii) Utilize their cap to build a powerful 4th line, and try to obtain someone at reasonable contract like Marchmant or O'Reilly and then make the push for deadline deal.

Example 1:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Ehlers
Zetterlund-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Giroux
Cousins-Sturm-Amadio

Example 2:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Coyle(example)
Zetterlund-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Amadio
Giroux-Iafallo-Armia

Guys, there is a virtual Q&A with the team for SSMs.

I manned up and asked Staios if he had anything to do with the Norris jersey racks and whether he expected the trade to be broken that way. Hopefully he answers my question.

With how sensitive they are to leaks, I'm sure they will think twice about doing that in the future. #bootsontheground.

It's a lot to ask from Yakemchuk.

He might not even make the full-time roster next year.

Sanderson is doing extremely well with Zub riding shotgun. Meanwhile, we saw how he did with Hamonic.

Interesting deal - high risk high upside.

I don't get it...I see your complaints about our team being soft, and you want to spend 9M on a player that plays with the same density as a cloud??

Zub has a 10 team NTC that Buffalo is almost certainly on.

I also don’t think Zub gets you Peterka, and that contract AAV seems low to me.
They seem to absolutely hate peterka and want him off the team so….
Not sure if that’s just hfsabre crap or what. Haven’t watched a lot of their games.

Their team hasn’t made the playoffs in 14 years, I think it is fair to say their views are somewhat distorted by the losing and understandably so.

Batherson struggled for two months and people were ready to trade him for a bag of pucks. I don’t really think it has any indication of a player’s actual value or abilities.

It seems strange to me that Peterka would be on the block, he's very young and obviously still an RFA, if you're Buffalo you want him to be one of the pieces to build around.

Trading Zub for Peterka is a Dorion move
It really isn't, I know defence is a more important position than winger, but we have had some trouble with 5v5 scoring this year, and Peterka is still a young guy with room to grow.

Plus in our prospect system we have Yakemchuk with potential to be as good or better than Zub, meanwhile our forward pool is almost totally barren.

Then you put Matinpalo with Sanderson. and have Yak and Kleven on the bottom.
And then you have Mantipalo playing against the top players. He's playing 12 minutes a night in a sheltered role with 55+% offensive starts. Sanderson is playing 24 mins with 43% offensive starts, Mantipalo/Yak can't play with him

Can't happen, neither guy should be playing more than 13 minutes a night, Yak shouldn't even be in the NHL

This is after trading Zub for JJ

Is 4.5M x 5 years your guess on a Peterka contract?

He’s pacing 68 points this year and Buffalo needs to keep him. He’s one of their best forwards.

He’ll be looking at 7M+ minimum with the cap going up to 115M in 2 years. Probably closer to 7.5M or even 8 in Buffalo.

You’re plugging him in there and deciding how much you give him based on how much cap space we’ll have available. Doesn’t work like that players are paid based on market value.

Besides, sacrificing defense for offense is not a good idea. We’ve seen a lot of that in the past 7 years.
