Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
You nailed it. Almost need to target someone outside the top 6 on another team, but who has top 6 potential (McBain?) and try to make a deal involving someone like Crookshank and picks outside round 1.
As I was reading this my mind did that thing where it fills in the words before you read them. It did "Almost need to target someone outside the NHL."

The last time we did something under the table we were docked a 1st rounder!

That's probably the best we could offer but I doubt it would be good enough.

It could be a 2025 1st that is protected until 2027. That would be unconventional, but it would be a much better gamble to take as the Islanders than getting a late 2025 1st from a contender.

The idea being the Islanders known that the Senators plan to give the NHL the 2025 pick if they make the playoffs, so the Islanders expect to get the Senators 1st in 2026 or 2027.

I've had the same thought, don't think Lou would be the one to do it though. Everything we can offer, a handful of teams can also offer... but better.

I also don't think we can do that for someone who doesn't have at least a medium-term future here.

I think it has less to do with Clarke's failures as a player and more to do with Rob Blake and Jim Hillier being the biggest dinosaurs in the league.

They are basically the GM and coach equivalent of our scouting staff. They've been basically trying to coach the offense and creativity out of him all year.
I would not bother with the justification.

I wish I there was someone out there that could help and was cheap! What's Dacosta up tk these days?

It has been reported that we are in on him. That means he will be traded shortly to the Lightning.
For a 1st, 2nd, A prospect

Friedman says it's quiet around the Sens, which is probably to be expected.
A little to quiet...

After tonight game, I want Donato playing with Stu and Chuky . Giroux obviously cooked for top line minutes. He has good speed, hands, big body that goes to the net.

Pay wtv they need but try to get best price possible our 1st obviously is out of it. If they like Perron would easily make the swap and add 2nd and JBD.

Not having a 2nd and 1st would suck but it's a weak draft and this is the best year to give up the 1st so not having a 2nd who cares we are not getting something good from this one anyways.

So we're all agreed keep Norris atleast till the off season? 😂

If we can resign him

Trade batherson for peterka and Norris for Nelson. Use the money when/if Nelson doesn’t re-sign here wisely.

Perron-Stutzle-Peterka
Tkachuk-Nelson-Giroux

Or run with the lines we had tonight and just get a middle six guy.
It’s an idea anyway.

I'd be fine with trading a 1st for Donato IF

1. He re-signs with us.
2. He continues to have seasons like this.

Two big ifs, though.

We can’t trade a 1st. Our 1st rounder may be a top 15 pick.

In certain circumstances you can trade a pick like that and Donato is not the player you go for at that price.

I think a 2nd and maybe a guy like JBD/Halliday would be the most I’d be willling to give for him.

I thought he looked great tonight. I think he could be a good fit on this roster.

Yanni Gourde 5.09 ft, 174 lbs, $5.1M AAV. UFA in 2025. Age 33 (Dec birthdate).

Not what I want to add to the team.

Not what we need but let’s not act like his size/weight is an issue. He’s an absolute gamer when healthy.

Like Pageau, he plays twice his size.

I wonder if it could be a 3-way trade between the Devils, Senators, and Islanders. Something along the lines of Norris with retention to New Jersey, the picks+prospects for Norris to the Islanders, and then Brock Nelson and a defenseman from either New Jersey or the Islanders to Ottawa.

Jack Hughes is out for the season. So New Jersey has both the incentive and cap space to add Norris. Norris at 6M is still risky because of his injury history, but it's a lot more tolerable when you see where the cap is going.

People will say if the Senators can get a 1st++ for Norris, they should keep them, but let's be real, they are trying to win now. That isn't going to happen. If they can get that kind of value for Norris because of New Jersey being in a bad spot, they are going to use it to try and improve the roster with rentals.

I wonder if we should start prioritizing Non American players with the current state of politics. Could be a lot harder to get those players to resign.

I don't think it will be a problem to resign him.
He is not worth a 1st maybe a late but not ours.Ours have more value for us anyways cause dont have prospect and we will lose this year first for nothing.

I see him as good fit the way he plays and the facts that he is on his prime at 28 years , am pretty he would like to be on a playoff teams for years to come and being an impact player on top of that. We can actually give him first line minutes which is enticing for him for sure.
