Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Bjorkstrand and Gourde just got 2 1sts.

This is a sellers market, a gigantic sellers market.

Dahlen was just taken as a high 2nd rounder who was having a great season.

The guys you usually get for a 2nd or 3rd are going to be going for higher prices. The guys you usually get for mid to late picks are going to be your 3rd round ammo. And they are likely to be guys like Stalberg who offer little compared to who they are replacing.

It’s a sellers market, the value of picks is very low this year compared to a normal year, and the Sens have minimal picks in the first place. They are not likely to be active this deadline in a way that helps the franchise
I get that Tampa feels like they need to go for it now with their top level players in their primes & getting older, but I think Seattle did pretty well in that trade. Let’s see how deep the TBL go in the playoffs.

Ok, but Clarke isn't hitting his potential and if he's being actively shopped, this probably means LA mgmt doesn't think he'll get there at all. Yak has shown his game is well suited for the NHL so I'd rather wait for him to play here before shipping him out for a kid who may top out as a decent #3.
I hate reclamation projects unless you pick them up for cheap. Massive red flags when a team starts shopping a former first rounder.

It happened with Zibanejad. He was up and down in his first few years with the Rangers. Called out by the coaches. Okay production, but nowhere near elite. He was 25 going on 26 when he had his first big season, then 26 going on 27 when he had that monster season that was cut short due to injuries.

We already saw Batherson reach another level a few years ago before he had the injury. I think in a different system, with more of a veteran group, he could get back to that.
" turning into a beast" implies going to another level where they haven't been before. That is not happening with Batherson at age 30.

Kings trading Clarke will end up just like them trading Cernak for Bishop and Faber (++) for Fiala.

Either way, they will be looking for help to win now because their front office isn't smart, so the Sens definitely aren't a team they'd be looking to deal with, unless they wanted to move Batherson

Sam Cosentino - evidently a hack - suggests that we will try to get Brock Nelson in return for JBD and a pick.

I had that same thought, Batherson (+ what, IDK) for Clarke. Not likely, especially in season, and would require lots reshuffling of the deck chairs, but it's probably the only way we could make it happen.

This assumes competence on the part of management. Clarke is scoring at just under .5pts per game as a rookie D; he's only a reclamation in the sense that LA seems to be chipping away at his value and development and a lucky team will get a chance to reclaim it.

Sam Cosentino on SN said he predicts Sens trade for Brock Nelson in trade involving picks and JBD

They need 5v5 scoring and Brock brings that so much better fit say over a guy like Gourde

Garrioch's latest article is once again pushing the idea that the Sens would love to dump Norris but will probably have to wait until summer. Beyond that, nothing new - they want forward depth and a fighter.
Bruce isn’t the same guy anymore he just throws stuff against the wall hoping something sticks.

Doesn’t seem have much sources with new management group.

No clue what the Sens are offering. Nelson is one of the big fish.

35 goal scorer, Team USA, ~15 year vet. He's going to cost an arm and a leg, Sens can't compete in a bidding scenario

Constantino legitimately knows nothing, no clue how he's in the role he's in

I really hope we're on Tanev's NTC.

He's just not what we need. Decent 3rd liner but brings little offense and will probably garner a 2nd+ given the crazy deadline prices.

Brock Nelson is an American who has played his entire career in New York and has a 16 team trade list. He isn't coming to Ottawa even if we had the assets to do it.

It's possible that Brady is super fun to be around. Especially if Brady hasn't been answering his texts right away, if he waived for Ottawa it pretty much forces Brady to hang out with him.

I can't see it being picks, because trading our 1st is so risky. Unless we have some sort of under the table assurance that the punishment for Dadonov will be removed.

Maybe something like Ostapchuk, 2nd, JBD.

As long as we don't move Dahlen I'm fine with it.
The last time we did something under the table we were docked a 1st rounder!

That's probably the best we could offer but I doubt it would be good enough.

Going back 25 years, Bruce always picked a few players who the Senators are “shopping” and just hammered it every week. Eventually, most players get traded so he ends up right, even if it takes a few years!

I remember the days when the Sens were always shopping Radek Bonk and Sami Salo while inquiring about Dave Scatchard and Brad Isbister.

I should say that I could see us moving a 1st if the Islanders were willing to allow us to protect it until 2027 with the assumption being the Sens will give up the 2025 pick to the NHL.

If I was the Islanders, I would pretend it's a big imposition to possibly wait there drafts, and then run to the phone to call it in.

Either the Sens make the playoffs in 2026, and the Islanders get a first in a stronger draft than 2025, or the Senators miss in 2026, which would point to the team being in a bad spot leading into 2027, where the Islanders would have their unprotected 1st.
