Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

We will likely just drift through trade deadline day hoping a team gets desperate to unload someone for a 3rd rounder.
Yep that makes the most sense for a bubble team with no assets. I could see a bottom 3/6 with some bite to his game added. To hep Brady, unless MacKewen gets a call up, now that he just came back.
Maybe a Branden Tanev.

Drake turns 27 in less than 2 months. What player has ever turned into a beast at 30 years old??? He is what he is which is a good pond hockey player that contributes when the stakes are low but rarely shows up when really needed.
There is nothing wrong with his ability / devlopment he has demonstrated that ,., He has been snake bit, lost confidence and his play has suffered. His ability is greater than his current level of play

It's not made up, draft picks who go back for their overage season in the CHL almost never get signed to ELC's, they just get let go. Hamara isn't in Belleville as a 20/21 year old for a reason.

Roger, Romer and Latimer were all back in their 20 year old season and let go without an ELC from the 2021 draft alone

Roger was a massive reach during COVID and is now playing CIS. So is Latimer. Who's Romer? Romeo? He was a 7th rounder.

Hamara is a point/game player in the OHL and had 7 pts in 7 games at the WJC last year.

I don't think he's a great prospect. But he's not a throwaway. He'll play games for Belleville over the next 2-3 years.

The Sens should have been shopping Forsberg.

The Panthers just took on Vanacek for $3.4M and, IMO, Forsberg is a more accomplished goalie. We could have then brought up Merilainen and also gained some cap space to maybe add a decent LD or 4th liner.

Missed opportunity.
I missed that - what a whiff by Staios, imo. Maybe asking too much? Should have given him up for future considerations and airfare. I'm sure someone here would have driven him to the airport.

Do the Sens employ a "best in class" sports psychologist? Serious question.

Sens are unfortunately in a terrible position deadline wise, possibly worst in the league.

They are on a bubble cusp. A pickup isn't just going to get them into the playoffs. It's likely just a waste, sitting still will likely result in the same outcome.

Then, they have literally nothing of value to offer as a deadlinne price if they wanted to get in the mix.

They can't sell, because they are on the bubble cusp.

It's a catch 22, they can't really buy, or sell.

They are in no-mans land.

Can get a Patrick Brown type guy for a 5th or 6th, that ultimately is a complete waste.
wouldn't mind acciari for the 4th line maybe we can swing something for someone a little better than brown

I'd like to see them add Michael McCarron who has another yr on his affordable $.900K contract & I doubt he would cost much. He can play centre or RW on a 4th line , add a little offence, maybe play some PK & take on some of the bigger guys in the league so Kleven doesn't have to fight Lowry & Brady doesn't have to fight Wilson, Reaves or Xhekaj.

After signing Perron & Amadio I doubt they trade either before their contracts end & it's likely Giroux is re-signed. If we lose a centre Halliday moves up a line & Ostapchuk or McCarron move into the 4th line C spot. They could add someone in free agency to move Giroux, Perron or Amadio down a line, but they would have to be affordable & fit into this group & the team style. If we consider that Kleven, Matinpalo & maybe Ostapchuk have proven themselves then next yr adding Halliday & Merilainen makes sense too & maybe Yak at some point.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Perron - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Ostapchuk - Halliday - McCarron

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Jensen
Kleven - Matinpalo/JBD

Ullmark - Merilainen

While I'm all for moving Forsberg at some point, I doubt management feels comfortable going into the playoffs with a rookie backup even though he has been great for us, especially with the up & down season Ullmark has had & his injury concerns this yr.
C'mon. Getting Leevi playoff experience, even backing up would be fantastic for his growth. Staios sitting on Forsberg is just inexcusable.

We should just pickup Jakub Vrana on waivers for some scoring help and call it a deadline.

He's not great but he's better than Gaudette, who hasn't done anything offensively for months but is Green's special boy so he never leaves the lineup.
Agreed with this

These are the moves we can afford. A flyer here and there.

Tolvanens Kalievs Vranas. Players who are likely shit but can have a regsurgence.

Even some ass player like holtz

And Hamara will likely be playing in Europe somewhere when his ELC is up at the end of next season, which is what you usually get from CHL overage players, even those who aren't playing on dominant offense teams. If he wasn't signed in 2022, he'd be a free agent right now

He's a guy you see as a placeholder for future considerations to facilitate a trrade

Tampa knows that they have players in their prime right now and want to win least one more cup. Have to respect it.

Replaced an aging Stamkos, improved their defence, and now improved their depth.

This is really bizarre logic, IMO.

If we make the playoffs and Ullmark gets hurt, Anton Forsberg is not going to help us. We're going to lose, and lose handily.

It'd make sense to keep him if he was a good backup and actually provided some level of insurance. But he's bad and doesn't.

In 2016/17 we got Burrows for Jonathan Dahlen and Victor Stalberg for a 3rd round pick.

They weren't "difference makers", but they helped the team down the stretch and into the playoffs.

It's not all or nothing. Adding a good 3rd/4th liner to replace Cousins is not what will propel the team forward. But it'll help.

Imagine we get Brian Dumoulin for a 3rd+Halliday and knock Hamonic out of the lineup. Is Dumoulin the difference between playoffs and not? No. Would he help? Yes.
I'm all for a Burrows-type acquisition (so long as there is no automatic 2 year extension with a full NMC!).

I agree that it's doubtful that Forsberg would carry us very far in the playoffs but he is a vet & coaches & management like vets more so than rookies. I do expect that Merilainen will be the backup next season though which would give him a full season to prepare for a playoff run & hopefully Ullmark bounces back strong as well.

Merilainen will likely be the starter for Belleville if they make the playoffs & if not, will likely be part of the Black Aces as backups in Ottawa should they need an injury replacement. They should have been looking to replace Forsberg before the season started, but I think they are stuck with him until the end of the season.

im fine with this, at the very least bumps highmore out and we can give vrana a few games tryout with our top 6. He has a contract that can be buried with no cap hit and we do need offence

Not every center can play winger.

If Norris could he would. Especially with how weak our offense has been if that was an option they would have tried it.
Norris has said he has no problem playing wing but Green is smart and likes to have the strength up the middle. Unfortunately Greig is not yet ready

I really wish this team had expendable assets. It sort of feels like it's going to take 3-4 years just to recoup all of the assets Dorion threw away. By that time hopefully we're able to actually contend? Remains to be seen.

So Greig needs to practice more

It’s absolutely criminal how the team was run under Dorion

The amount of waste is actually unbelievable.

It’s one of those times the person vs potato analogy would leave us in a demonstrably better spot with the potato doing nothing for 7 years

Which led me to my next point. Move a center to wing and have him learn while a worse center plays center.

Also players say a lot of things

I wonder if Justin Brazeau could be a target for us

6'6, 227lb with some talent. Has always been more of a skilled guy than a grinder and may be underutilized playing on the Bruins' 4th line mostly.

Really not sure what he'd be worth. Maybe a 3rd?
