When Norris is healthy he is one of our best players, he is not a player we should be moving or giving up on so quickly. They can add someone for the bottom six at the trade deadline although I'm not sure they will & look to add a top six player in the summer. They seem to me like they are only a player or two from taking the next step & that includes keeping Norris who has the scoring touch this team needs.

What would they return? Dylan Wendt, Nico Dawes, 2026 1st?

"Probably not"

Norris and JBD for Siegenthaler, Dowling, and a 3rd. The Sens flip that 3rd to Vancouver for Soucy (because we don't have a 4th). New Jersey can also send the Senators a silly conditional pick that will never transfer.

It's a ruthless VGK type move for NJD. Siegenthaler is out for the rest of the rest of the regular season. They are incredibly deep on D. They transfer Siegenthaler's money to Kovacevic. Moving out Siegenthaler's money makes Norris at 8M a non-issue next year.

Ottawa gets out of the Norris contract and replaces him in the lineup with a modern day Erik Condra.

The higher end version of the trade would be something like Norris with 1M-2M retained for Mercer and a 3rd, which the Sens then flip for Soucy. Really, it's all about Soucy.

Warne saying looking to shop Norris at the deadline. I don’t buy that.

Staios will not break the room in the middle of a playoff push

How do you know it isn't Brady who order 66'd Norris?

We all have buddies, who we love, but we know we wouldn't want them to be the one going to war with us, because they lack intensity. I saw the video of him giving the piggy back ride to Stutzle, I think it's possible that he is just too nice for playoff hockey.

No point dealing Norris if either of those scenarios is the return. Why are the Sens acquiring 2 LD in this? Just a bizarre proposal.

3 out of 4 points since our Cs are all playing and we want to trade Norris. Rumours Doesn’t make sense to me but these local guys gotta put some name into the trade rumour pipeline from the Sens and Forsberg just isn’t a sexy name at all - so Norris it is for now.

Would love Donato if cost is a 2nd and a mid range prospect. Ideally get him before we play Chicago tomorrow night lol.

Tanev would be a nice add too. Would make us a much deeper team.

It's not about being one of the best players, even though he's not. He'd easily be after Stutzle, Sanderson, Tkachuk, Chabot, and Pinto in terms of best players on the team.

It is about the cap space and giving Pinto a bigger role. They need to improve on the wings and get some depth on D.

Right now Tkachuk is the only winger who looks like he belongs on the top two lines. Batherson should come around also but right now he's not looking good. I wonder if Giroux is still a top 2 line guy.

Maybe they could try Norris on the wing but clearing his cap room gives Staois the flexibility to tweak the roster.

Norris name has repeatedly come up in trade talks. There is definitely fire to this smoke.

If you work for the hockey news and they want a trade deadline article and you come back with the names Anton Forsnerg and Matthew Highmore you wont have a job, they will find a writer who will make more sexy things up, they don’t want accuracy, they want eyeballs. Norris does that, nobody else on this team does that.

365 days ago we were talking about trading Chabot and getting nothing in return because of his salary, it’s just talk for the purpose of talk, no truth to this rumour

Garrioch, Seravelli and now Warne obviously no Freidman but the first two are well connected and don't throw out random stuff. We aren't seeing other names like Batherson. Staios also hasn't come out to extinguish these rumours.

My take is that you can't pull of a move like this in season. If sens make playoffs and Norris stays healthy. You do not move him. If one of those conditions are not met feel free to move him in the offseason if there is a buyer.

It is harder to pull off in season but not impossible. Especially closer to the TDL when teams have either banked cap space or have some clarity about their LTIR situation and whether they can pull a Mark Stone special.

We see players with big cap hits moved without retention most years. If Ottawa is motivated to take back contracts, like Soucy, it should be doable.

Rakell and Karlsson is an upgrade on Batherson and Norris in the short term. Getting cleanly out of the Norris contract without retention would be a massive pro since they seem to want to go that direction. Rakell is clearly being sold high on, and Batherson is going to be the next Zibanejad late bloomer, but that isn't really the point.

It would be super easy to come here and post Batherson for Peterka and have everybody tell me what an awesome GM I would be.

Look at it this way, Jensen+3rd for Chychrun, 3rd+Joseph for future considerations, Hamonic playing 20 minutes a night, if I posted those in a speculation thread I'd get roasted, but those are a lot closer to the types of deals or returns I speculate about for our pieces.
You do create a lot of trade proposals, perhaps the most of all HF Sens posters. It takes time and some creativity to come up with those proposals no doubt. Your creativity and dedication goes far beyond anything I’d do or have done in the past. I just wanted to add these thoughts and a bit more to my previous response.

I don’t envy Staois & won’t pretend to know what he’ll do. Sometimes not pulling the trigger is the best response & that might be the case even with the Norris situation, although I see risks regardless of what alternative is being considered of course. Anyhow, most of this has already been stated previously.

With the top line having such an obvious hole, it is kind of odd they haven't at least tried to get more creative with something like Norris on the wing. I've also asked for that a few times this year.

Iirc
This has never been tried.

Crazy. I’ve been hoping to see it for at least a year now.

Just thinking about the Sens having Norris available. I have zero issues with trading Norris but I'd like to see the moves to make us better as a result
so they think Pinto can take 2C and Greig can take 3C adequately
I like Pinto at 3C on a line that can shut you down and offer some scoring. .. that said,
Pinto has 2C ability and could benefit from playing with 2 top 6 wingers (we barely have 4 top 6 wingers though)
Greig could be a 3C , he just isn't as good as Pinto there as of now.
So we assume we can move Norris and more importantly his 8m per and spread that out to 2 4M players to help with the depth
Those 2 4M players have to be fast and able to contribute 2 ways. Maybe we get 1 back for Norris and some trade capital to help get another somewhere else.
Who wants to add Norris at the TDL and take on that AAV going forward and give up a good middle six player in the process; I would think its a slim pool.
Definitely do not want to retain. Its hard to see a deal coming now.
Its going to be hard to come away thinking its a big win... depending how they can reuse the cap space gained.

Just to clarify, the article on Hockey News was just referencing Seravelli’s comments, it wasn’t a new source.

Not that it really matters, I think it’s clear the Sens are shopping him either way.
