Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Rakell and Karlsson is an upgrade on Batherson and Norris in the short term. Getting cleanly out of the Norris contract without retention would be a massive pro since they seem to want to go that direction. Rakell is clearly being sold high on, and Batherson is going to be the next Zibanejad late bloomer, but that isn't really the point.

It would be super easy to come here and post Batherson for Peterka and have everybody tell me what an awesome GM I would be.

Look at it this way, Jensen+3rd for Chychrun, 3rd+Joseph for future considerations, Hamonic playing 20 minutes a night, if I posted those in a speculation thread I'd get roasted, but those are a lot closer to the types of deals or returns I speculate about for our pieces.
Another option is to NOT make a trade, if it sucks!

Norris' name has been in the rumor mill from nearly the moment Staios took over as GM. I think if he finished last season healthy he'd likely already be gone.

It was a general comment.

I agree with you on the 2nd paragraph.

Ottawa needs to go for some buy low guys in questionable situations on low cap hits with offensive upside.

A few guys that could fit the bill:

Alexander Holtz
Jack Quinn
Alex Newhook
Anthony Beauvillier
Andrei Kuzmenko
Luke Kunin
Nick Robertson
Peyton Krebs

Jack Quinn for sure

Wonder what it would take to get him plus JJP

Would start with Batherson and a 2nd round pick

People bring up Peterka a lot, but it seems incredibly unrealistic. They first have to meet Buffalo's price, and then convince Buffalo to move him in the division instead of somewhere else. Then, they have to find a way to sign Peterka, when it has been speculated that Buffalo might be trading him to get ahead of the possibility of Peterka being aggressive in free agency next season. It just doesn't seem to make any sense.

Quinn makes more sense to me at least on our end of things. We need right handed forwards. We need goals. There is the Ottawa connection, which might make signing him easier. He can be signed to an extension on July 1st, and might take something similar to Greig or Pinto.

The problem is on Buffalo's end of things is that we really don't have many interesting pieces. We can't realistically move our first round pick because we owe one for Dadonov. We aren't moving Yakemchuk. Quinn's value might be lower because of his injuries this past year or so, but they still would want a good piece for him. Ostapchuk? Montgomery? Mantinpalo? Eliasson? The cupboard isn't very deep. Maybe Batherson for Quinn?

The past regime did. It's why they brought in Galchenyuk.

I don’t think Quinn and newhook are buy lows.

I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on holtz. He’s shit but could be an alright trigger man for stu

I'd add Bryan Rust to the list of possible targets. He's on a reasonable contract, the Pens are selling, and he can put them in the net.

However, I'm not sure what assets we'd have to send back. The big problem with any trade is that we don't really have a ton to work with that doesn't weaken us substantially.

Sens twitter thinks we can get donato fro jbd and a third. “Anything more is overpayment”
we probably could have at some point then donoto got 8 points in his last 5 games and 16 in his last 10

his value has gone up significantly in the last little bit and we will need to pivot if that was a target

This is why people get upset at trades. They have unrealistic expectations of what it should cost.

The market has already been set at a 2nd+ being the minimum. Donato and Tanev not moved probably points to their GMs asking for more. We also know that the first round is apparently weak this year, with a late 1st being characterized as drafting a second round talent.

I'm not saying Donato will get a 1st, but a 2nd is clearly the floor outside of a scenario where the market completely resets.

If the context is that "I only want them to give up a 3rd" that is fine. But I'd it is Donato should cost a 3rd, they clearly aren't paying attention.
