2nd rounder seems like a lot for Nyquist given the year he's having. Sellers market I guess.

Best to just sit it out.

Major sellers market.

Lots of parity in the league means few sellers and that combined with the consensus opinion that the 2025 draft class is weak will mean overpayments at the deadline this year.

We should 100% sit it out.

The one issue I really have with Sakic and the Avs management is their complete disregard for size on the blueline.

I'm definitely not a size queen, but this is ridiculous:

6'3 Manson
6'1 Toews
6'0 Lindgren
6'0 Makar
5'11 Malinski
5'10 Girard

Average height of an NHL D in 2025 is 6 feet 1.54 inches, so only they only have a single D that's above average.

Interesting approach to take given the track record of success of teams with big D cores come playoff time.

The Avs have also been pretty terrible at drafting for awhile now. If they actually produced anything out of the draft they might be a real threat to win still.

They also retained half the salary. This is standard price for a 3rd line winger who can slot in your top 6 when injuries hit.

If we're giving up a 2nd round pick for a player I'd prefer it to be someone that will be able to help beyond just this season, especially since we're no longer a likely playoff team after this losing streak.

I admittedly haven't watched much of him the last couple seasons, but Lukas Reichel looks intruiging as a buy-low pickup.

Was very impressed with him in his draft year and he's put up solid numbers at lower levels, just hasn't figured it out in the NHL yet.

Has been scratched recently for Chicago and was listed on Speculation Seravalli's trade target list.

I'd see if some kind of swap could be worked out involving Reichel for Halliday, who has been completely looked over for numerous callups by Green, even with multiple scoring centers out. Should look to trade him if he's not going to be given the opportunity to play for the big club, despite going PPG in the AHL since the start of December.

Well team said there is a plan for Halliday.
Could be Halliday not getting a call up, is that he costs the most on the cap hit, compared to the other guys. Likely costs a 1000 bucks a day more than the others.

Yanni Gourde might be a good pickup in this regard. He doesn't have term, but re-signing him doesn't seem that unrealistic depending on what his priorities are. He would be only a few hours away from where he grew up, and he could likely play a bigger role as a veteran on our team, especially if we plan to move out players like Norris and Batherson. A top 6 spot would be his to lose.

I expect us to wait until later in the deadline day and try to pick up some lower tier depth for cheap.

I kind of expect the opposite. I expect us to pick up low-tier depth early, but give up Norris or Batherson to do it. I hope to be proven wrong.

I've been following a lot of the Tkachuk's media work, and I'm thinking based on what Keith has said, we should see if he wants to come in on a PTO. Get him skating a little bit. It would really come down to whether he would be humble enough to take some reps in Belleville before we tried him on Stutzle's wing.

Seth Jones at 7M x 5 years is more palatable than what it will probably cost to extend Ekbkad. Especially since they dumped Spencer Knight.

I wonder if they move Ekblad to recoup that pick they gave up.

I'm interested to see if they'll re-sign Bennett or Ekblad. Not sure if they'll have room for both now.

Bennett is better but I suspect he's going to get some absolutely insane offers this summer, and it's not like they need him with Barkov and Lundell locked up long-term for 15M combined.

My thought is that Seth Jones is a long-term Ekblad replacement, and if they keep Ekblad down the stretch, Ekblad is the "own-rental". I just wonder if they do something out of left field and trade Ekblad either to recoup that 1st, or to fill a different position of need in more of a hockey trade.

With where the cap is going, they aren't getting Ekblad for 7M. Not to mention, moving Knight out as part of the deal helps subsidize Jones cap hit.

If Ekblad stays, it will be that he relented and took a discount. My guess would be that if Ekblad was willing to go 6M-7M x 5 years, that this trade doesn't happen.
