Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

When do you think this trade has to occur:
  1. This season before the deadline
  2. At this year’s trade deadline
  3. This summer.
  4. Maybe even beyond this summer.
  5. Either alternative #1 or #2, but basically as fast as possible.

I would be very surprised if Norris is traded during this season. If it's going to happen, it strikes me as a summer trade.

In a trade scenario where the Sens would acquire Karlsson, I have to assume Jensen would be available for trade. What could he fetch? Having both appears redundant.

Nooooooo way. It would be Zub before Jensen by a mile....by 10 miles. What kind of Ninja are you anyway? A DorionNinja?

I don't think so.

Lets you have defensive depth + you are able to keep guys fresh + protects against injuries.

The thing about having a good d-pair is that they can make forward lines good too.

So theoretically with 3 1st pair D's we have one out all the time making our forwards better.

Gaudette-Ostapchuck-Higmore? meh.

Gaudette-Ostapchuck- Highnmore + Karlsson, Chabot, Sanderson? Things can happen.

no way lol

Zub >> Jensen

even with me being biased.

Zuub is better, younger, and longer contract.

....he's younger and only plays half a season.

ROR wanted to sign in NSH and I think Trotz would only trade him to a place he actively wants to go to similar to how he did with McDonagh. Can't imagine ROR would want to come to Ottawa but if he did, that would be friggin awesome. We'd have to take back other cap from NSH though (would love Lauzon or LSchenn just for more hits from the blue line lol)

He should have added a NTC to his contract if he wanted to choose his destination. McDonagh had a full NTC so he was allowed to dictate his return to Tampa.

Would be extremely strange for there to exist some unwritten agreement between ROR and the Preds to only trade him to his preferred destination. That's literally what a NTC is for.

It's not like he's been a Predator for his whole career. Only been there a little over 1.5 years now.

Penguins aren't retaining half of EK and then taking on Norris while giving us Rakell. Rakell can get them a 1st and A/B prospect. A 3rd team has to get involve an we don't exactly have assets that are valuable (JBD, Boucher, Ostapchuk, Halliday, etc.,) to Pitts or another team that would retain on EK
Karlsson has 0 value if he will only waive for Ottawa. Maybe PIT doesn't take Norris directly and this is a 3 way trade, but value is probably close.

I don't disagree with any of that. I just think Trotz is the kinda gm that would have that type of unwritten guiding principle of some sort.

If we have them both, I'd keep them. One of Zub, Jensen or EK will inevitably get hurt given our luck. Let's us have a guy like Matinpalo step up or in a year or two, it could be Yakemchuk. Unless someone is overpaying for Zub or Jensen, run with all 3 so you can have a play driving defender (Sandy, Chabot, or EK) on each pairing.

With the Phaneuf deal we reduced actually dollars out the door which was a mandate.
I'm sure. I think it's still fair to say though, it was trading today's problems for tomorrow's problems, just like the Zaitsev deal, although that one made a lot less sense. I've never cared much to separate the destruction from Moe and Curly.

In the context of the post, what would people optimistically expect for Norris from Vancouver if both teams were talking, and if the Senators (for whatever reason) decided they wanted to do it between now and the TDL.

Friedman reported that the Preds are treating him as though he has full trade protection.

Predators' O'Reilly to be treated as if he has no-trade protection

"However, they are going to at least consider it under two conditions. Number one: The offer has got to be something that really excites them ... and number two: It has to be something O'Reilly would agree to."
"Here's what I understand the Predators are telling teams. They are saying, 'he may not have protection language in his contract, but he is being treated as if he has a no-move clause,'" Friedman relayed.

Trotz is completely in over his head as a GM, which should surprise no one since he's a head coach that was gifted the job.

O'Reilly didn't negotiate himself a NTC and has been in Nashville for less than 2 years, yet Trotz is willingly giving up his leverage and handicapping his team's ability to get maximum trade value because he likes O'Reilly.

That's crazy.
