Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Listening to 32 thoughts and while talking about Schenn, mentioned Ottawa inquired about him last year.

Potential target this year ?
im assuming this is luke schenn, he is definitely more impactful than hamonic which is a start, the 2.75 million cap hit and the extra year makes it difficult to work with our cap situation though

Luke Schenn is age 35 and turns 36 in November. 6'2 and 225 lbs. I don't want another old ageing vet. We have enough of them: Giroux, Perron, etc.

We need young prospects who have a future with the team.

Brayden Schenn is age 33 and turns 34 in August. Same as above: too old and in decline!

With Brady and Perron and the promise to have Stu on your wing he could be tempted. I wouldn’t doubt if want to go get him, but Yakemchuk is our only trade chip and I don’t see how that balances out.
Yak is not our only trade chip. We can trade future draft picks and any other prospects in our system as well as any player on our roster.

The Sens need better depth if they are going to stay competitive for a playoff spot and try to do something in the playoffs. They don't have the cap space this year to make a major addition. They arguably need two forwards. One top six forward and another 4th line forward. They need a forward to take on the role Nick Cousins did, until he is able to return.

For a 4th line forward, the players on expiring contracts and on teams not currently in a playoff spot are: Mathieu Olivier, Pat Maroon, Craig Smith, Brett Leason and Justin Brazeau.

Then for a top six forward the main options and mostly players who have one or more year remaining. They are Alex Tuch, Anders Lee, Ryan O'Reilly, Michael Bunting. Blake Coleman. Cap hits would need to be retained in order to make the cap situation work.
If only we did not blow the budget and cap signing Perron. Could have had $4M + available.

The cap is going up 7.5M for next season and we have Giroux and Forsberg coming off the books.

We will have plenty of cap space to add depth.

Next season

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Batherson
UFA/trade - Norris - UFA/trade
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Perron - Ostapchuk - Cousins/Gregor

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Jensen
Kleven - UFA/Yakemchuk/Matinpalo

Ullmark
Merilainen

Kleven needs to be re-signed. Let’s say 3-3.5M bridge deal. Greig’s salary is going up 2M.

You have about 10-11M to play with and if somehow you can dump Perron you have even more. We should have no issues rounding out the depth. We have more need in our top 6 IMO than depth. We need guys who can put the puck in the net and create offensively. With Giroux getting older, you need to replace him with a legit top 6 guy.

Maybe they make some changes in the top 6 (Norris or Batherson) but we shouldn’t be selling top 6 guys for depth. To me you add one good top 6 guy and then another guy like a Rodrigues who can play around your lineup.

I suspect the cost to dump cap will also go down. Many teams will now have more wiggle room as soon as next season, and even more going forward.
I tend to agree. We should also dump Perron with a 3rd round pick to gain cap space (a la Joseph). Kleven is NOT going to get $3M; we need to start paying our backup goaltenders, 5/6/7 D, and 4th liners $1M or less to pay our 1st and 2nd liners higher salaries to attract them here.

Injured at the moment, which, according to B Sens coach Dave Bell, was on a play that would have injured anyone.

From what Dave Bell has stated, they have a clear development plan with Boucher, and he appeared to be making a fair amount of progress on it prior to getting injured. Bell specifically stated that he had zero discussions with Boucher about scoring and production, so it seems like that aspect was not an expectation or part of his development plan at that point in time.

It seemed like the development plan was more heavily emphasized on positional play, decision making.hockey iq, defensive awareness and skills, among others.

He has the tools to be a productive player, but that will come from having a strong foundation and high competency in those other areas rather than dynamic offensive talent or highly creative puck play.
Sounds like wishful thinking from Senators coaches; hoping for a former high draft pick to develop into an NHL player.

There are some players on our current roster that must improve their defensive play (based on their +/-):
Sanderson -15
Greig -13
Hamonic -11
Gregor -10
Batherson -8
Perron -8

This sounds like you're describing a 9 year old hockey player.

yeah dont get me wrong luke schenn isnt in my top 5 for choices whatsoever. I personally much rather play matinpalo and use whatever capspace we have to add a forward.

However if getting luke schenn means no more hamonic then thats a sacrifice i am comfortable with

Hamonic is gone next season as he is a UFA. Don't need to add any Schenn at this time as our team is definitely NOT a SC contender. Should focus on the future and getting younger players.

Forsberg vs Tokarski + late pick

I like the idea of Fright about a three way deal for Karlson vs Norris

Donato vs JBD and 3rnd pick

B.Tanev vs 2rnd

You're going to get scored on. They need to improve their 5-5 scoring to offset the goals that will happen when you are a #1D, especially when playing with Hamonic.

Ottawa kid playing for Dartmouth who is apparently garnering interest from us, Toronto and
other teams according to Friedman.

If he's smart he'll sign with us.

Would immediately become a top 10 prospect in our pool.

Sanderson has immensely, he's just on a laughably awful oiSH% which will normalize.

A bunch of them are arguably having some poor puck luck drive those +/- numbers,

Sanderson 3.92 oiSH%
Hamonic 3.13 oiSH%
Gregor 4.58 oiSH%
Perron 2.08 oiSH%

Then there's Greig who has a 88.49 oiSv% at 5v5, which is pretty low.
