In all seriousness, Dobson would be a great candidate to try and acquire, but is there room for him in the system? A new contract will be $8 million at the least and we already have Yakemchuk in the system as an RD offensive defender. Dobson would play behind Zub and Jensen right now, but we can always move Zub or Jensen to the third pairing. We would have an stacked D but I feel like Dobson is a luxury right now.

Great player, just not sure if he'd be the right fit here.
Jensen will be 35 in September
Will need a replacement sooner than people think

When was the last time a player blocked a trade OUT of Buffalo?

Just because he doesn't want to be in Buffalo doesn't mean he'll waive his NTC to Ottawa, when there would be plenty of other options, like Tampa Bay, who are rumoured to be interested in him.

But for the record Tuch is from Buffalo, so he may be a rare exception of someone who doesn't mind playing there.

Batherson probably has negative value at the moment.

He isn't very expensive sure, but he also does nothing except score in bursts every now and then.
In no world does he have negative value. If we were to trade him, we're getting a 1st rounder and an A prospect.

60-point big-bodied wingers with two more years left at $5 million aav who are 26 are very valuable right now.

Is everyone taking crazy pills when it comes to Batherson?

He makes less than 5M a year and he's got 44 points in 55 games.

Pure insanity to think he has negative value.

Or Zadina over Tkachuk

Or Drysdale over Sanderson

Or Kaliyev over Pinto.
No one's denying the scouts have made some good picks but they're made blatantly bad ones too.

And it's not because of "hindsight" either, Boucher, Thomson and Jarventie were drafted way higher than the general consensus, and none of them worked out.

Batherson is really annoying when he isn't scoring but at the same time we can't really talk shit about him when he is making almost half of Brady's salary and 1m more than Perron.

Ottawa is closer to Buffalo than TB though.

People get mad about how everybody always wants the old players back like Erik Karlsson, JG Pageau, Mark Stone, Cody Ceci, etc - but there is something different about Erik Karlsson.

It's kind of like how it's creepy to be thinking about some girl you knew in high school 20 years later, but it's romantic to pine for your first true love.

What I am trying to say is that I think it would be good business for the season seat numbers.

Not sure what that accomplishes for us.

But even if Staios wanted to do that Tuch's NTC would likely prevent it from happening.
faster ....big winger who brings a bit more consistency in his game. I think it accomplishes a lot especially on a wing with Stu

literally one poster said he has negative value

I made the proposal for Tuch if he is avaliable because he also makes less than 5mill

but for real what is the point of paying the assets + the new contract for Dobson when you can get a 5-6m Karlsson who can be a bigger gamebreaker, cost less, and has the playmaking, creativity, and cross ice passing we so badly need?

like imagine we start throwing out a pairing of Kleven-Karlsson instead of Kleven-Hamonic.

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Jensen
Kleven-Karlsson

is insane.

that team is going to be a weapon no matter what line you throw out because the d pairings can all drive the play. three pairings that can win you the game.

if the price is manageable there is no reason to not go for it. it also allows us to get a cheap fast top 9 forward instead of having to give the assets for an expensive and established top 6 forward. Karlsson would more than makeup for the offensive drawdown between a top 9 vs a brand name top 6.

Tuch only has a 5-team no trade list. I doubt we are on it since we are in the same division. Agents try to expand lists by not putting obvious teams on it. It's part of what screwed over Ullmark and forced him to have to enjoy Winterlude. He or his agent took the calculated risk that he would not appeal to the Senators, because they just signed Korpisalo when he submitted the list. That was at least reported or speculated on at the time of the trade.

Tuch vs Batherson would be a pretty fair change-of-scenery trade. Batherson has an additional year of term at a great cap hit, but in the long-run Tuch might come in cheaper because of the timing of his contract expiring sooner. He can be re-signed July 1st.

I wouldn't do it, but I am biased. I wouldn't lose my shit if they did it either.

Dobson hypothetically would be a foundational piece for the better part of the next decade.

Karlsson would be a short term piece to sell season tickets.

Karlsson will cost less in assets, and we have none, so that probably works better for us. It has to be Norris for Karlsson, I see no other way. Maybe a 3-way deal with Norris going to VAN, Karlsson @ 6M and a few plusses to OTT, and then picks+prospects+young NHLers from VAN to Pittsburgh. Sens then flip the few plusses for Donato or another C who fits under the cap. Or instead of plusses, someone comes over from VAN.
