Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

And if they can get the Perron - Norris - Batherson line to start contributing consistently they will have three good lines. It's the 4th line that needs an improvement at the trade deadline IMO & adding a big C/RW who can drop the gloves & give this team a little more jam could be the catalyst that pushes this team farther.
I am more than ready to move on from Gaudette... we could upgrade on Highmore as well but he has been ok.
A winger like Connor Brown would help.

I was really hoping that we were going to be in on Connor Brown after watching him in the playoffs for the Oilers last Spring.
He would be perfect in the bottom 6 and to jump up in the top 6 as an energy player, when needed.

I bet that Ott does not take him & he clears waivers.

League should save VCR and void that trade it’s such one sided for NYR

f***ing gross a player like Miller gets that back and even worse how doesn’t a team beat that trash can return…

I want to hear what the protection is. My guess is that the Rangers relented and lessened the protection, so the Canucks are gambling on this trade producing a pick in the 10-14 type range like the Karlsson trade did for San Jose. None of the other pieces are particularly valuable.

It was the right move by the Canucks. It gives them breathing room to shop Pettersson in the summer when teams have more cap flexibility, and also know that the cap is going up to 113M after 2 season. My guess is that since Carolina moved in a different direction, trade offers for Pettersson were bad. With Miller having a NMC, trade offers for him were always going to be limited so it made sense to move him now and wait with Pettersson.

NYR probably gonna make the playoffs now ? Ffs

It's one sided, but the Rangers are almost doing Vancouver a favour by even giving them that. That's the reality of dealing a player with a NMC. It's Vancouver's fault partially for not dealing with this during the offseason when teams had more cap flexibility, and mistakenly thinking Pettersson and Miller were over their issues.

It's the NMC and trading the player at the most difficult time of the year to move him, also combined with dealing from the position of weakness where everybody knows they have to make a trade because of the personal issues in the room.

Rangers pick is top 13 protected. That's pretty rough for the Canucks because it almost entirely guarantees that they can't luck into a good pick this year. If the pick transfers, it's probably because the Rangers made the playoffs, in which case it will be late teens at best. Otherwise, they have to wait an entire extra year for the pick.

With that said, looking at the disarray the Rangers are in, it could end up being like the Matt Duchene trade. So maybe Canucks fans will get lucky that way with an unprotected pick in the McKenna draft.

Sens couldn't get in on this because they didn't have a Brannstrom level piece to include.

Did a quick search on Mancini. A big defender but couldn’t find too much info on him. O M God, the Canucks have really unraveled after having a pretty good year last season.

Not many options for a Miller trade here. Canucks had to swallow their expectations and get the most they could.

Ridiculous trade for VAN
To quote a VAN fan :
"We sent the guy that show up in the PO and kept the guy that is afraid because the other is too mean "

Pettersson has A LOT of pressure now
Not sure he is built for that lol

Wow Vancouver went full no lube on that deal. If there is turbulence on the flight from NY Chytil’s career is over.

It’s not clear what the issues were between them. I think people simplify the issue as a personality thing, one guys is very fiery and the other is more reserved. The issue with that line of thinking is that every team has those two types and the vast majority of them have no issues being in the same locker room.

If they don’t like each other, nothing stops then from not talking to each other unless necessary. Not everyone on every team are friends.

We don’t know what happened but for it to reach this point there certainly has to be more to it than a personality difference.

Most players will endure people they don’t like to win and both these guys were their best forwards. It’s gone way beyond that.

So that pretty much closes the book on Pettersson coming to Ottawa (or anywhere else) I assume.

I think that they will shop him in the summer. I don't think they will for sure trade him, but I wonder if this entire situation gives them some trepidation about being married to him for the next seven seasons with a NMC.

If Carolina didn't choose Rantanen, Pettersson would have been traded last week. I think if they can get the market to where it was when Carolina was involved, maybe they decide to wash their hands of both of the players who were part of the problem.

They would be a much better team right now with Miller, Necas, and Kotkaniemi for Pettersson instead of Pettersson, Mancini, and Chytil for Miller.

I still think there is a chance that the Rangers just Duchene'd themselves, and that pick Vancouver owns could end up redeeming the trade for them in two years.

Are there any Clarke MacArthur's around?

Exactly what we need this offseason.

For this season it might be tough to grab a guy like that.

Looking around the league right now not a ton of guys that are available. Best case scenario you “help” maybe a top team “shed” some cap and get a decent player if they try to add a higher salary player at the deadline.

Otherwise guys like Bunting are probably on Staios’s radar, and on many other team’s radar, but he could make sense in terms of fit, salary and cost to acquire.

Have a feeling we’ll be going for a guy like Armia though. Good bottom 6 guy this year and has size and speed. Won’t cost too much to acquire, doesn’t cost too much as a player and Montreal could maybe retain a bit… we could keep him for next season as well.

I feel a very lowkey add coming our way. Probably one at F and one on D just to round things up and they’ll count on the core doing the damage.
