Proposal: Free agency edition Trade Rumours/Proposals [MOD - Stay on Topic] 5

Any team that is playing Hamonic in the top 4 needs some type of RD depth.

JDB sucks and isn't healthy.
Yakemchuk isn't playing this year.
Hamonic is gone after this yr & he doesn't play when everyone is healthy. JBD does not suck & he's on the pay roll, he led the team in blocked shots & they have Matinpalo. I'd rather them go out & fine a forward for their playoff push who can add some offence. rather then spend money on a depth D who might not play.

I feel Miller would be a better fit. If EP has a hard time with the pressure Miller puts on him, I dont know if Brady will be any better. This team is about accountability right now. Miller is also better at setting up.

Tkachuk/Stutzle/Giroux
someone/Miller/Batherson

its for this year, and he's on a minimum contract. acting like its $5M AAV multi year contract.

hint- you can still add offence after you put in a waiver claim, also that's one thing he's actually good at, and we don't get a lot offence from our D.

I bet that Ott does not take him & he clears waivers.

If we get Miller then I am hoping then Pinto is forced to the #2C spot and Greig goes back to his natural position where he thrives in.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Miller
Giroux-Pinto-Batherson
Perron-Greig-Amadio
Cousins-Ostapchuk-Gaudette

Don't need him, we have Matinpalo & Yakemchuk coming & JBD & other RD as depth.
I don't think anyone will beat a drum for him .. he could offer a different kind of depth over JBD who can be completely replaced by Matinpalo.
Boqvist would be a different kind of depth for this year
Yakemchuk is at least this year away and probably a good part of next year.

I am taking that bet too. I am just saying it wouldn't be a bad bet to put in a claim to help with our depth issues until we get healthy Jensen again, at worse send him down to help Belleville for a playoff run and let the contract expire in 3 months, or someone else claims him.

Wouldn't mind the trial run is all I am saying.

50/50 ... My opinion stops at he should be considered as a depth piece they currently do not have. I think at times they have missed some puck moving ability next to Kleven.. Its worth a closer look imo... I don't expect you to look into it at all or even entertain the premise.

a claim would make sense if we think he will make more of an impact than sebrango (since right now we have 6 with jensen and jbd being injured). I dont think it makes sense because i have sebrango making more of an impact with the style of play we are running

Sebrango is a LD.

Sanderson, Chabot & Jensen are all PMD & Kleven, Matinpalo & JBD have shown they can move the puck out. I'd also like to have another look at Guennette to see if he has gotten better since his last callup. I'd be fine if they took him off waivers, I just don't think they will or see it as a need right now with the depth at RD they have on the roster.

Slow and steady Steve. Pierre Dorion would have gotten it done already, picks and prospects be damned!

I guess if we're comparing to the Duchene trade it'd be something like...

Norris, Unprotected 1st, 3rd, Eliasson & Forsberg.

Dorion was extremely aggressive, which was always fun in the moment, even if you knew it was going to cripple the franchise.

If he was still GM, we'd have Pettersson by now and Vancouver would have Norris, Yakemchuk, and Ostapchuk, and we would have sent two 2nd round picks to STL to take Perron.

Do you think he gets taken off waivers? I think he clears.

I think people need to consider that the Senators have 49 contracts right now. I think that would impose on their willingness to take a flyer on Boqvist as a depth piece in the lineup, unless they are super high on him.

It's only his price tag that bothers me, but if I would gamble on Pettersson.

He has loads of talent, but seems to be in a bad situation. Getting him here with some young guys, with a great culture, plus Alfie and Ullmark, could be the tonic he needs.

At this point I guess I don't see any reason to NOT take a gamble on one of the most skilled players in the game. It's not like we have anything to lose other than some cap space.

If we could somehow get Pettersson for Norris and not a very small package of picks+prospects, I would take that gamble with the intention of renting Pettersson and listening on him in the summer if he's not a homerun fit here. His NMC doesn't kick in until July 1st.

Of course, they can't take a contract like that without being okay with the possibility of being stuck with it. But I think there is a possibility that they could use Pettersson as a trojan horse to get value out of Norris and get out of his contract, assuming Vancouver is desperate enough to move him for Norris and not a lot extra.

Maybe they wait to see if he clears, then trade a contract for him. Maybe since they signed Gagner they trade an AHL forward and a late pick. Then we keep our contracts at 49 and we get a player who has cleared waivers, offers RD depth and could definitely help Belleville.

According to puckpedia and cap wages we are at 47/50 contracts.

The Canucks are not going to give Pettersson away .. the package will have to be a good one .. not Norris and crumbs

Pettersson is talented, but he's going to have the majorly change his personality if he wants to be a top player in the league and play well in the playoffs.

Just look at this. Does this look like the mentality that this team has? Do you think any player on this team would just accept being shoved over during a goal celebration? Again I think Pettersson is fun to watch, but I'd encourage all the people who desperately want to recognize that despite the talent, he's definitely got some major red flags for a guy making so much money. There's a reason Vancouver is considering trading him.

If we trade for Pettersson, it's:

Norris+Zub+small add,

For: Pettersson.

Then we'd need to turn around and hopefully pickup a top 6 RHD, hopefully someone like Connor Murphy or an expiring RHD.

Painful yes, but consider that we have Poolie who subscribes to the cup winning formula of having

1 star C
1 elite C
1 elite power fwd
1 star D
1 top D
1 elite G.

I mean, if that's your recipe for a cup and you beleive you can get the best Pete then you make this trade. Cue the moans and cries about Zub but it's the only way this trade happens.

Talking about Vancouver, I'd take a chance on Vinny Desharnais if the price was right. He hasn't been a fit there so far by all accounts but he's a hulking dman who can be decent in the right situation. If it means not having to see meaningful minutes from Hamonic/JBD/Mantipalo I think it's a win.

Obviously I'd love to aim a little higher, a guy like Connor Murphy comes to mind, but this team needs to address the lack of depth between now and the trade deadline.

Absolutely no to Desharnais.

Personally, I don't think he's an upgrade on any of these guys. Yes, even Hamonic. 🛡️
