Ideally, they want to get a waiver exempt goalie via trade, even if that means giving up a late draft pick or a C prospect. It would give them more flexibility.

If they have no other options, claiming Primeau might not be a bad move just in general (with no actual knowledge of goalie technique). It gives them a bit more depth with another goalie who has been in the NHL before, who is coming off an awful stint with another team and would have a lot to gain by coming in and playing remotely decent.

I don't think there is a real solution in the trade market. The market is such a way, that Carolina are trying to take Forbserg from us, AND WE AREN'T GIVING HIM TO THEM. Think about that. What does that tell you about how difficult it is to get an NHL goalie right now?
I agree. If one of Sogaard or Merilainen don't step up and we can't acquire another back upand Forsberg is willing to extend at the same cap hit, I think Staios and co will keep him here. As 'meh' as Forsberg has been, he's statistically a better back up than what's available.

Unpopular trade idea of the day:

Greig to Calgary (+Guenette +Sogaard? To balance contracts)
Kuzmenko, Miromanov, Cooley back.

Both Kuzmenko and Miromanov have been healthy scratches, but both have also shown the ability to play better.

Miromanov was good with Weegar earlier this year, and might be someone that could spell Hamonic from top pair duties.

Kuzmenko has just not found his groove in Calgary this year and may need a change of scenery - and could by dynamite on Stutzle's wing.

Cooley is having a decent season in the minors, though he was not good in San Jose in limited action last year. Maybe he's found his game finally (27yrs old).

The dollars don't work as presented, I'm not trying to suggest otherwise. And it is effectively Greig for magic legumes. Just suggesting a starting point - but would be over-joyed if Forsberg came back on Thursday and flashed pre-injury form, and Greig found a groove, and Zub returned and channelled A-Train thus nullifying the need for any moves!

Sogaard for Primeau might make sense for all four parties at this point. Except, Montreal might not be crazy about Sogaard having a second year at 1-way money.

It would be a change of scenery for both players. The Senators need goalie depth. The Senators couldn't just claim Primeau, because he would require waivers when Forsberg and Ullmark return. Now, he is waiver exempt.

How about something like

Forsberg + 3rd 2026 (we have 3) -> Jeff Skinner @60% + Pickard.

Similar caphits but we get an extra player for the top 9 and a 1M backup for next year.

Pass. Wouldn’t take Skinner for free let alone give up an asset. Also a team can only retain 50%.

GM needs to wake up and get Sanderson a solid partner asap! The Team is playing solid defense, and we need to capitalize on it

Most of the league is probably looking for a decent defenceman at this point in the season but few teams are sellers at Christmas.

It would have to be an imploding team like the Rangers but apparently their defence being terrible is one of their biggest issues.

I have a feeling a move for a Dman will only come in the offseason. Unless it’s a depth 3rd pair kind of guy, I don’t see it for this season.

I think next year Yakemchuk has a real shot to make the team and play a sheltered role.

I think they upgrade on Zub in the offseason. By upgrade I mean someone who can stay healthy.
