Over Here
With Ostapchuk's size, skating and defensive awareness, he seems to be holding his own and competing well on the 4th line. As he develops with more NHL experience, I think he could climb up at least one line to line 3; perhaps more if he develops a scoring touch.
I could see him at 3C next year, Pinto at 2C.

Seem a like we're helping the hawks unload a barf contract and we get to give them our up and coming rd.

Imo there's better deals to be had
$9.5M annual cap hit. Seth Jones is age 30 with 5 more seasons on his contract. Too much for us with Chabot and Sanderson already at $8M per, and Jensen and Zub at $4M and $4.6M per.

Season so far.. thoughts?

Edit: I might be completely off
This could be a great idea for a thread!

I'd add Chabot and Jensen to the S tier.

Gaudette and Ostapchuk should probably be A tier given how they've performed relative to expectations.

Basically, since this team is as of now in the playoffs, there has to be quite a few people graded pretty high.

I would put Brady in the S category because he leads the team in almost every category except points.
He is on pace for his best season plus or minus a point or two a goal or two.
The rest seem very well placed.

I don't think Lafreniere is a fit here unless he can move to center. He would suffer similar problems to what he does in New York. Too many left-handed forwards, and he would be stuck behind a franchise left winger. Call it the Debrincat syndrome.

Teams can only have so many 7M-8M players. Wasting another slot on a gaudy player who we don't need was the kind of move we made twice under Dorion, first with Debrincat, then with Chychrun.

With that said, if you approach the trade from the perspective that they think the should of Norris will be a major issue going forward, and the trade is a trojan horse to dump the contract - it's understandable. Swap Norris for Lafreniere, and figure out how to balance the lineup later.

The reason Lafreniere made sense as a piece in a package for Tkachuk, in the scenario that we were a basement team again and they had reason to believe Tkachuk would want out after his NMC activated, would have been because it's a LW for LW. With Tkachuk out, Lafreniere would have been in a position the be the #1 winger. With Tkachuk here, it doesn't make much sense.

With all that said, I don't think Lafreniere for Norris is that crazy when you consider Lafreniere's costly extension and his play so far this season after signing it. It would be the definition of a change of scenery trade.
Lafraniere had a LW spot open for him right now.

Laf on our roster wouldn't work the best because he's playing behind Brady on the PP. Unless we stick him to Stu's wing and hope for the best.

Question is, despite Drury being an awful GM, in the event that he thinks moving Laf is the right next steps, do we even have the pieces to acquire Laf?

I don’t understand the Amadio impressions around here. Looks like really high IQ player to me, positive impact by my eye test, always making smart plays
I agree, him and Pinto have really been gelling. Those two on 3rd line have been good with both Perron and Cousins on it. Amadio is a puck hound, rarely gives the puck away. Yes, he's not much of a finisher but that's not the only way to provide value.

The answer is no. Laf is nearly untouchable if you talk to Rangers fans. He, Fox and Igor are what they would build around if Drury pulls the pin. It would take Batherson +, Pinto ++ or Greig +++.

There is no possible scenario where we acquire an impact winger like that. We simply don't have the trade capital and doing so flies in the face of everything Staios and Andlauer have said thus far about everything being a process.

For lack of better options we will assess this year, let this team continue to grow together and look to add the right piece next year when a buyer's market emerges whether this summer, leading into next season or at next year's TDL.

Time is on our side. Trade capital is not.

I want mangiapane
Way more realistic and reasonable target for this summer.

Whoever acquires Kreider is in for a bad time, unless it's something like Perron for Kreider.

He is about to fall off a cliff. Add in that he clearly doesn't want to be traded, to the point that Friedman claimed that Kreider is calling teams to disclose his injuries and dissuade them from trading for him.

So whoever gets him is getting a declining hurt player who may not be that motivated based on the circumstances.

If they trade him without cap coming back, it will be something like the Trouba trade. They will get a late pick.
