The comparables for Greig have been out of control.

Heard Marchand, Richards, Kadri and now Konecny. All of them unreasonable.

Most likely outcome for him has always been a great middle 6 two-way player, which is what he's still on track to become.
May be able to work out something for the disgruntled Kakko .. but I don't think I'd do that.. I would stick with Greig who is still developing and will get stronger which will help him with the type of game he plays. He will become that utility player that can move around and provide an edge.

Greig is a natural center and has always looked better when he plays that position.

Unfortunately he hasn't had the chance to play center this season and I think he's adjusting to being on the wing.

I mean, he's kind of like those guys but with about 40% of the offence...

Yeah, Zack Smith is a closer comparable IMO. Shit disturber who can play up and down the lineup.

Just googled Zack Smith: he's still only 36!

Just hoping Greig is a regular for 25g, instead of it being a one time career high like it was for Smith. Greig is already better at being a troll (at least against TML) than Smith was, so that's one positive

Greig can be a bennett down the middle. I wouldnt trade him. If you want Kakko it will take less than a good young roster player imo

Unless we don't expect Perron and/or Zub to return during the regular season, we would need retention to acquire Kakko. Or, they would need to take Forsberg.

We also won't want to move our 2nd this year because we may not have a first.

Maybe something like:
Kakko (@ 521k) to Ottawa
OTT 2027 2nd + Boucher to NYR
OTT 2025 4th to Third party Team

Boucher has no value, but he is basically in place of the late pick for the retention spot. We will assume if he's worth a 7th or future considerations to a normal team, maybe he is worth a 4th or 5th to the Rangers because we know they liked him a lot at the draft.

With that said, it wouldn't shock me if Kakko went for a lot less than most people expect if he is traded for picks. I think a low value 2nd or a 3rd sounds right, but he is basically a rental because no team is qualifying him as he is now. Maybe in a perfect world we can get Kakko for Boucher and a small sweetener (assuming we have the cap space).

Why is nobody qualifying him? He's on pace for ~40 pts from what I think is their third line with limited pp time and isn't a complete liability, seems like some team would be willing to give him a shot

He’d look good as the checking winger with Timmy, he has a Michalek feel to me, lots of tools just not great hockey sense but can play the game 2 ways. Would probably score 30 on Timmys wing.

If Ottawas in a solid playoff spot and were drafting around #20 I’d trade our 1st 2025 for Kakko and get immediate help for the lineup - but Kakko would have to sign a Batherson type extension and he would be a nice add to the forward group. Green would improve his game like he’s done for all our forwards

What will be cost when team decide to trade Perron , ?
I mean if sens will be in play off zone at deadline and need to add Granlund type player, only it happens if we trade Perron

To OTT: Kaapo Kakko
To NYR: CAR 3rd (I'd say a second, but they don't have one till 2027)
To CAR: Anton Forsberg (bit of money retained if needed for cap purposes)

Who says no?

I was thinking of the exact same thing.

If we could extract Kakko from the Rangers somehow he would be a decent fit here. Trading Forsberg might be the only way to create enough cap space for fit him. Unfortunately I think we still need Hamonic.

Problem becomes… who replaces Forsberg?

We have Merrilainen, Subban. Don’t know if these guys cut it at this stage. Maybe pick up a guy like Nedjelkovic for a late pick…

I understand why Carolina would want Forsberg. Good attitude and hard worker. He has played well in stretches. The cost wouldn’t be high compared to Vladar and Vejmelka. He could help Kotchetkov split starts and take pressure off of him to always be on. Carolina plays a well structured game and I could see him do well there.

Trade them Forsberg before they make the much smarter move of trading for Vejmelka

i wonder if we could get jack drury who i think is a buy low candidate

if not a 3rd would be nice

hell trade them forsberg for kochetkov before they realize what is happening

Rangers probably, feel like some team would offer more than a third.

Yeah, that's the issue I ran into while building that trade once I realized Carolina doesn't have a second for the next couple drafts. Ottawa would probably have to pitch in something like a Stephen Halliday or a third of their own.
