Laf+Kakko+Lindgren = 9.225M
Tkachuk+JBD= 9.010714

We'll call that a 215K surplus for NYR. They are down one player. They have 573k in cap space right now. So you add in the 215k surplus and that gives them enough to call up a player making 788k or more. If their depth is bad, the Senators could possibly send them an established fourth liner, lol.

Kakko is playing well this season but let's not forget that they shopped him and he was drafted ages ago. He is no longer a blue chipper. He may be at a risk to go unqualified by the Rangers because he is one of those players who has a stronger case for arbitration based on the admissible criteria than what he would get in the real world from the Rangers or a rival team, but will come below the walk away number. People are going to say oh look he is finally scoring, but he is not playing a big role. I hardly think including him for cap purposes would be the breaking point for them if they are sold enough on Brady Tkachuk to disrupt their team early in the season this way.

Lindgren would likely appeal to the Senators because if they make a trade now, they are doing it to try and make the playoffs. Adding a defenseman who Green will actually play in the top 5 would be huge. I don't think the Rangers would want to move him, but to get Tkachuk, they would have to.

The Senators could obviously flip Lindgren and Kakko at the deadline for draft picks if they are out of the playoffs. I don't think the Senators would qualify Kakko unless he somehow broke out as a legitimate top 6 forward, which probably won't happen.

Whatever picks or prospects are involved going in either direction, whatever. But the above is a base for a trade that should be cap compliant. While it disrupts the Rangers defense, they do have Schneider who likely was already planned to take on a bigger role since Lindgren is a UFA. I think people are going to overrate what losing Kakko for someone like MacEwan would do for the Rangers, but I don't think they would see it as a big deal. He is scoring a lot to start the season, but it isn't like he is playing a significant irreplaceable role.

Kakko is a good player with talent.

He is the perfect change of scenery breakout candidate and could see him find new level playing with someone like Stutzle. He is a great forechecker and strong. He just needs to find his scoring touch and would get a lot of repetition with Stu.

This trade flat out makes the Senators a better team.

If you're a sens fan and actually enjoy this team being good and winning you'd want to do this trade no matter how much you like Brady

Laf is more skilled than Brady and there is greater than zero chance that he becomes better than Brady. Laf and Kakko would both fit the identity of an Alfredsson Senators team. Maybe even both become stars.

We are getting back 3 NHL players we can lean on vs 1.

Even if you're not getting back the best player you're getting back the best team.

Brady brings a lot to the table in terms of physical play and goal scoring. Yes laf is skilled but brady is a better player. I am not sure why you think we should build an Alfie identity team or where that is coming from. I would have killed to have a brady type player on some of those Alfie teams. . Kakko a star? I doubt it. Brady is already there. We don't need to trade a star to get quantity. You can move out some other guys whose to clear cap and bring in depth if that is the issue

1. Michael Amadio (2.6M x 3) + Travis Hamonic (1.1M x 1) + 2025 2nd round pick to ANA for Trevor Zegras (5.75M x 2)

- Zegras is disgruntled in Anaheim and there are question marks about his character. However, he's young and has elite level skills, which the Sens sorely need. He could pan out to be Turris or could be Filatov. Anaheim receives two locker room/character guys, which their GM loves, and a 2nd round pick this year for their trouble.

2. Claude Giroux @50% (3.25M x 1) + Nick Cousins (800K x 1) to COL for Calum Ritchie (950K x 3) + 2026 1st round pick

- In the absence of Landeskog, Nichushkin and Colton, Colorado adds a skilled veteran top 6 forward and a bottom 6 cup winner. In return, Ottawa receives a big, gritty center prospect with loads of talent and what's likely to be a late 1st next year.

3. Brady Tkachuk (8.2M x 2) + Nick Jensen (4.05M x 2) to LA for Quinton Byfield (6.25M x 5) + Brandt Clarke (865K x 2) + 2026 1st round pick

- The Tkachuk era is over in Ottawa. LA acquires the best power forward in the league... But alas, a complementary player rather than the cornerstone piece he was built up to be from day 1. In return, the Sens receive two high end pieces that have yet to assert themselves in the NHL, while Jensen is swapped for a mid to late 1st next year.

***Chabot and Norris are both untradeable due to their contracts, so they remain. However, Norris shifts to the wing, where his shot and tunnel vision are better served, while Chabot fully takes on a secondary/mentoring role for Yakemchuk (on the back of the two of them looking great together this past pre-season).

2025-2026

Byfield - Stützle (C) - Norris
Zegras - Pinto - Batherson
Greig - Ritchie - Perron (A)
Gregor - Ostapchuk - Gaudette
Reinhardt/MacEwan

Sanderson (A) - Clarke
Chabot - Yakemchuk
Kleven - Zub
Sebrango/JBD

Ullmark
Sogaard/Merilainen

I mean the team needs a fundamental change in this core pretty badly. Like just that would be a positive. And frankly we trade Norris does that really do anything? No.

And Kakko is really skilled and strong and knows how to drive defenceman crazy so just in that we get a little of what Brady brings. And he could never become a star but even as he is, he is a valuable player to have.

Alfredsson is going to be here well past Green and eventually maybe even a head coach for us, he is one of the strongest voices in the organization and basically Staios most direct link to the dressing room. This team they are wanting to build will have Alfie identity and will be the better for it.

I am not sure if the sens need a fundamental change or rather they need guys who can produce to the level of their contract?

Norris 8mill
Perron 4 mill
Pinto 3.75

Thats a ton of cap for what they are bringing and thats two of your top centers.

Comparing Kakko to Brady is wild

I think Norris is probably giving the team everything he has. He's on pace for ~60 points, he's second on the team in hits, first among forwards in blocks, ~55% in the faceoff circle. I'm just not sure he has a level he can go to beyond what he's currently providing, and given that he's coming off his third shoulder reconstruction I can't criticize him too much.

Pinto does seem to be getting off easy. He's been so, so bad this season but people rarely mention it. I'm still sort of unsure what this guy is supposed to be in the NHL, honestly.

Perron just looks absolutely cooked. I know he's had some heavy off-ice stuff going on, but I'm getting a David Legwand/Alex Burrows vibe from him. Not sure there is anything left in the tank here.
