First off season of Staios has been very meh after Ulmark trade, guess he didn't have a lot of choices to improve team.
Our defense has improved being more stable and having an actual RD on second pair who can play defense.
But if look at our fowards it's really average and we made a lot of changes , coaching, bottom six, ect.
It's like we're counting on Norris being 100% to be at least decent offensively. Cause if Stuzle is the only guy who create offense it will be the same as last season. Team will target him /check him whole game and that's it most of the Sens offense is gone.
Stu really need a 2nd center who can create offense and get some focus from the other team so he can have more freedom to play his game.
With all those facts/factors I see us having a rough start as usual ...

I see the changes as Pinto replacing Tarasenko in the top6, and he can provide the same production. Then Amadio taking Joseph's. We need Perron to have gas left in the tank and be better than Kubalik. A capable 3rd line/revamped bottom 6 is a must if we want to compete.

I'm in the minority, but I don't have an issue starting the season with a Kleven - JBD pairing. I think that Hamonic, Jensen, and Yeo will all be able to help him continue improving. Really, given how the team played as a whole last year, having patience with JBD might be a good thing.

Staois has been busy from the Draft, to Free Agency to siging a number of players & most importantly getting Pinto signed for two yrs. I bet he will be very expensive next time around, but the good news is that we'll probably have a much better idea of where Norris is at that point.

I wanted to keep JBD as a #7 over Hamonic but I really don’t think we should go into the season with JBD AND Hamonic as our 6/7. One of them needs to be upgraded and then you can live with the other.

Like or hate the moves, the whole thing this summer seems like there was a clear plan of what they wanted to do.

It's wild to me how I see the exact opposite of you in this team. We have the main guys, yes they need to take a step forward, but we didnt need more high priced offense.

We made exactly the type of moves we needed. Unsexy, leaders, and responsible. This group needed maturity and accountability badly and we have gotten that

Not a lot of right shot D left available.
Shattenkirk with Kleven might be ok

absolutely and Staios did not have carte blanche.. there were problems to address and he did not have a ton of space to work with.
Quibble about the moves ,, if you want I quess.. but everything improves the team.. and he has some powder to add a couple pieces at good value

I know this won't be popular but maybe we offer John Klingberg a prove it contract and see if the old boy got some juice left in the tank.

If he doesn't we can rest assured he'll be sent down to the AHL or claimed by someone else potentially on waivers.

I don't really like having jbd or hammer as our options for the annual Chabot injury and whoever else ends up on the IR throughout the year.

We obviously are not going to get in on the remainder guys who are looking for top dollar, this is kind of an old school Dorion move taking a chance on this guy. Yes he's fallen from Grace but this guy's career is pretty well on the line at this point and he probably has a lot to prove.

Let’s bring back Zaitsev, we could use an elite defender.

I'd be fine going into training camp with JBD, Guenette, Matinpolo and a veteran PTO (and Hamonic, but not really) fighting it out for the 6th spot.

It's not without risk, but it's not like any of the veterans on the market are sure things at this point either.

2024 - 2025 Roster:
Tkachuk - Stutzle _ Giroux
Norris - Pinto - Batherson - 23
Perron - Greig - Amadio - 7.5
Ostapchuk - Halliday - MacEwan/Gregor 3 = $50.5

Chabot - Jensen - 12
Sanderson - Zub - 12.6
Kleven - Hamonic/JBD - 3 = $27.6

Ullmark - Forsberg = $7.750 = $86 approx.

- it will be interesting to see if Norris is able to start the season or wait again for a number of weeks before he is completely ready & healthy. If he doesn't start the season I expect Perron to move up to replace him.

Ha. Staios was asked how his french was coming along yesterday, "Merci Beaucoup" he said lol.
:laugh:Not as easy as people think to learn another language as an adult, it's my 3rd language as well. I now speak three languages badly.
