Eh, if he could have traded him for anything he would have, can’t get upset at a nonexistent market.

In saying that, it’s more that GM’s aren’t always the brightest, willing to trade value for absolute bums like Jeannot

I can kind of get the logic around the first Jeannot trade given that he scored 24 goals and 41 points and that a team could think they are getting a rare breed of power forward in the modern era, But the 2nd Jeannot trade is a head scratcher for me. He is a couple years older and his production hasn't trended anywhere close to his one strong offensive season.

On top of that for a physical forward he is not really a fast or dynamic skater so you can't really expect that he can run around and get a ton of momentum changing hits for you.

The first trade was a huge overpay but at least you can see how someone could get caught up in what they think they are getting with him. The second trade just doesn't seem logical.

Any interest in a Pinto for McGroarty trade? Open to adding something on our end.

Sens would need more for Pinto.

If their backs were against the wall, and they had intel that Pinto was going to be signed to a predatory offersheet, or there was some sort of outside factor that made signing him impossible, getting back a top 10 talent on their ELC would be acceptable.

I think the way most people view the situation is that the Senators are playing hardball with Pinto, and his agent is bluffing through the media. I don't think they view it like the Senators want to trade him, or an offer sheet could actually materialize.

We could look at a 35+ UFA because we could sign them to a contract with easy to hit performance bonuses that push their salary to next season.

With that said, we don't have a lot of cap next season either. Any open cap is already spoken for (example, Giroux is a UFA and that opens up 6.5M, but we obviously would like to keep him).

We need a solid bottom pair defenseman. Our depth is not good enough with Kleven, Hamonic, and JBD as our 5/6/7. That's atrocious. We need a legitimate #5 defenseman. We likely will have to resort to a trade.

Now how much do we have with Pinto signed to a bridge?

Have to think they will retain a bit of flexibility this year.

Basically if u take out one 750K forward to upgrade the sens can Sign a veteran forward at 1.75 but likely they just keep the 1M as a buffer for roster moves throughout the season and try to accumulate pro rated space and hopefully add someone at the deadline.

Obviously there will be even more space if they drop one or both of the 13F 7th D but i dont think they go that route or maybe they do?

That include Sandersons 850 overage?

Edit: mistook the whole bonus/retention area for goalies.

I think a puck-moving RD to take the pressure off Kleven might be a good idea. Somebody like Justin Schultz or Kevin Shattenkirk at 1M. You can just waive JBD and recoup most of that cap.

Pretty slim pickings for forwards.
That's my assumption their plan is.

At some point someone put out a tweet or article claiming management was looking to move Joseph, Kastelic, Brannstrom, Chychrun and JBD. Maybe Kelly was in there too but don't think so. 4 of those guys are gone, so they were either good educated guesses or plugged in.
