Not seeing hammer waive his NMC, since he only wanted to play in Ottawa.
He made those comments back when the vibes were good. Since then he saw the team go through a rough season where the coach and GM are now gone and the new GM is looking to shake up the roster with some big moves. He would likely prefer to be on some team where he has a chance to play regularly and that the expectations for team success aren't so intense.

Chris Johnston saying that NY might be looking to get rid of a dman.

Speculates about Trouba because they have Fox and Schneider playing RD and his $8M cap hit is a luxury on the 3rd pair.
Trouba only has 2 seasons left at that cap hit. Depending on what the Rangers are willing to retain in salary/cap I think he could be a good target.

Utah is apparently looking for a top pairing D.

They might be a good match for Chabot. I doubt he has them on his 10 team list because he probably figured Arizona would never want to acquire a 9M-10M real money player.

The reason he might be a good match for Utah is that they are going to have a difficult time attracting UFAs outside of paying inflated 1 year contracts. Chabot has term, so he would be trapped there for a little bit.

It would be Chabot, not Chychrun. I find it hard to believe Chychrun would want to go to a rebuilding team. Chabot has term, so aside from getting booboo faced, he would be stuck there.

Hamonic is fine riding the pine pony for the year.

Like others have said, should only see the ice if an injury or illness happens prior to pick drop leaving no time to call-up Guenette or Mantipalo.
Do you think that’s how he will be treated? A 7th dman on paper who’s actually 9th?

It would have to be one or the other, assuming Zub is your other top 4 RHD. There's no way they take on Trouba if they see him as less than their 2nd pair RHD. He also happens to have a 15 NTC, and Ottawa is a good bet to be on it.
Unless we keep/extend Chychrun and trade Chabot instead which would save us 3.4M this year (with adding a 4M Trouba) and likely a bit on the extension as well.

Sanderson - Tanev
Chychrun - Trouba
Kleven - Zub
DeHaan - Hamonic

May not be perfect but it's moving in the right direction.

They'd be tough. The problem is none of those guys are top 4 d-men at this point in time.
Zadorov has shown some flashes of being a quality 2nd pairing guy so he could take a step forward. A lot would depend on the further growth of Sanderson and whether Chabot can regain form.

Alternatively if they somehow sign Tanev and then acquire Trouba on a retained deal, they could still add another tough d man to be the 7th d man like Robert Bortuzzo or maybe get Logan Stanley if the Jets don't qualify him.

It would just be nice to see some real physicality back in defense like when we had Volchenkov and Sutton or when we had Methot, Phaneuf and Borowiecki.

Paying 8 million for what should be a 3rd pairing d-man isn't moving in the right direction. Are people convinced he's good defensively because he's big and physical?

I may be wrong, but doesn't Chabot's NTC come into effect as of July 1, 2024? If that's the case, he does not have trade protection at all until next week and he would also be submitting his first ever list of teams. He would be making a decision on including/excluding Utah with the knowledge that Utah is likely spending much more on their roster than the previous Arizona ownership group.
