You shouldn't spend money just to spend it. It's July 10th - for the most part there's nothing left on the free agent market worth signing.

If you go out and give Tarasenko the sort of deal it probably takes for him to come to Ottawa [3 years/15M?] who are you really doing that for? Seems a lot like trying to placate a restless fanbase rather than something that really improves the team.

This sort of irrational panic/fan service is how bad decisions get made.
And who says we’re spending money just to spend it? Perhaps money will be spent to make the roster better.

I agree that there is no need to panic, but I also don’t see why we have to be panicking to add to the team now that the cash is freed up. This isn't exactly a surprise situation at this point, seems like everyone has just been waiting for DBC and Stevie to sort out a deal.

You seem to have made up a signing in your head, characterized it negatively, and slapped a neat bow on it, all in one post. You seem to have it all figured out!

I’m not sure I‘m buying what you’re selling though.

wonder if we can swing the 1st + for Konecy
I don’t think Koneckny is a target. I am not positive but I’m pretty sure there was not a lot of love between Giroux and Travis.

No, I mean we should have not used the cap space that went to Hamonic until we got the top 6/9 forward group settled.
But $750,000 of Hamonic's $1.1 million was going to another Dman regardless as the Sens needed to fill the 7th Dman position. If they waited and Hamonic signs elsewhere you are not getting an experienced guy for that low an amount.

When will we know if the leafs buy out murray? That's huge for how this team can approach free agency.
Leafs have 5 days after Samsonov's arbitration award and hearings take place starting July 20th and going into early August.

Agreed. I'd like the team to fill out the rest of the roster with some forward depth. I'd like another third line center that has the versatility to play wing as well in case of injury and another physical forward that plays with pace that can play on the third line. Obviously a traditional top 6 forward would be nice but they don't have the cap space.

Remaining forwards that are UFA's that could fit. Comtois, Tatar, Toews, Tarasenko, Donskoi, Bailey, Suter, Sundqvist, White, Aston-Reese, Motte, Stastny, Grant,

WRT people hoping for Tarasenko — is there any credible insider info that is a legit possibility? IE, anyone reporting talks between Dorion and Tarasenko’s agent?

Sens need/should be waiting out the Pinto signing before they make any other moves.

Also need to wait out the Samsonov arbitration/lack thereof for more clarity on their own cap.

Not a pretty place to be sitting July 10th, that’s for sure.

I don't see the Pinto signing being an issue. He has no leverage, and his leverage doesn't get any better by us having less cap room. His only leverage is holding out, which doesn't really change just because we have less cap room.

Where are people reading Tarasenko turned down 5.5mil the only thing I’ve seen is that is his rumoured asking price not what’s been offered

We're definitely a better team than at any point last year.

Just looking at our top 6
Healthy Batherson>>hampered Batherson
Norris>>Pinto
Kubalik can slide in on either wing as a complimentary piece and should post 25 goals

Pinto will really help the bottom 6. After the Norris injury last year, we never had an adequate 3C. Running Pinto and Kastelic is a big upgrade on XXX and rookie Kastelic

Our D is hugely upgraded from last year. Brannstrom had a terrific year and Chychrun will be huge. For years we barely had 2 top 4 D. This year, we have 5 guys that can play top 4 minutes plus some depth D that can play top 4 in a pinch.

And our goaltending should be better. Last year was a disaster on the injury front. Even if we have to play Soogaard for 20, he's way more prepared for that than he was last year and he'll be backstopping with a much stronger D.

Non Friedman said we held talks with him like 10 days ago. The talks could have been serious. Or could have been extremely short with tarasenko giving a hard no

Our D is the same d we had when we hilariously crash and burned after the deadline

Not sure korpisalo is better than what Forsberg gave us

I was really supportive and happy about the Joseph signing. Thought he was going to be great. After he got that new contract though, it seems like he's just sort of coasted.
And that weird story about DJ Smith not playing him with his whole family present due to some disciplinary issue, that was a huge red flag for me. DJ Smith seems like a players' coach, not some cruel mind-gamer like Babcock.
Now that contract is becoming an albatross. Sigh.

We should just sign Tatar for 2.5-3mx2 and call it. Look for another higher end 2LW next season when we have more cap space.
