Dorion can trade him to a number of teams .. and hate the return
Detroit is the best chance to work an extension .. preferred by DeBrincat... but has to deal with Yzerman grinding him to the bone
Others would need to pay the bigger 2024 UFA price if there is interest on the player side to go there.

Clocks ticking and it isn't Dorion's friend right now,

It’s totally fair for AD to not sign anywhere, and if the return is going to be nothing or trash then I’m sure it’s also fair that there is a shit team out there that will give us trash and take AD.
Be unfortunate for him to end up without a decent centre, and poor results back to back going into his UFA status.

Wonder how much term and AAV a team would pay for a small 27 goal scorer…
There is real risk here for DeBrincat.
One more so so year and I’d bet he doesn’t get more than 5 years at 7.5

Yup. If we don’t like the trade, we get 1 year Arb and see DeBrincat go crazy trying to prove himself for contract year. That alone is worth a late first for 65 or so games for us to be in playoff position.

Then we deal him in trade deadline for what could be same as what we get now.

Easy.

Only negative is we won’t get Tarasenko/Tatar now. But could be:

Tatar/Tarasenko for full season + underwhelming return.

ADB in contact year + very good trade deadline return.

Maybe we then flip a piece for Tatar level impact during trade deadline anyway.

2 seasons ago Kelly was looking like he was going to become a decent/good 4th liner. Good speed, throws hits, didn't take nonstop stupid penalties, bit of a pest. Last season he was brutal everywhere.

Joseph clearly has the tools, I don't think we will see the Joseph we saw when he got here but I definitely think he can be a good bottom 6 player. Will they put it together? I hope so since replacing them is not going to happen.

But ya they could totally suck again and make our depth non-existent and useless.

I hope you are correct Twoch. I have super low expectations and would ideally see them replaced.

I would like them replaced if last season is a representation of how they will play this year. Unfortunately, there is no way Joseph can be moved without having to attach an asset to him, and I see no reason to sell him so low when we need depth. I would rather give him a shot to be a useful bottom-6 player for us.

If Kelly stinks, you can waive him and replace him with whomever. With Joseph, we have no choice but to give him ice time and hope this season is far better than last season.

Joseph could be sent to the AHL as well, it won’t happen but it can be done. 1.15M of his cap hit would be buried.

Might be good motivation for Joseph, too. We have an owner now that will spend money and probably eat a few dollars to send an underperformer to the AHL. Maybe the threat of ridignt he buses again will get him back on his game.

I’d move cat and take back Schwartz if Seattle was legitimately interested. Schwartz could play second line winger. And eating his salary would be worth something to Seattle. We could extract a nice asset or two.

Other downside risks:
He has a down year and we get a mediocre return
He gets a long term injury, we get a mediocre return
At TDL the market has changed* and we get a mediocre return
*it could be a buyer market
teams can't afford his salary
And historically, players traded at TDL don't have a huge impact for their new team

I completely agree with this.

If the rumour is true that he's looking for 8*8.75, there's no way in hell he gets that with anything less than a 35 goal season and he might need a better year than that to get it.

He could get traded to Philly, have another 27 goal season, and then be dealing with Yzerman saying I'll give you 5*5, take it or f*** off.

I'm not sure missing out on Tarasenko is a big miss. My gut tells me he'll be a very underwhelming Ufa signing. Hope I'm wrong if we do sign him.

Joseph missed time last year twice with injuries. You never know how healthy guys are. There's a difference between "I can play" or "I'm healthy"

I expect he'll have a 30 something point season and be a good PKer.

Any chance this trade gets done on a Saturday?

Doubt it. If it’s with an extension it has to be prior to arb hearing, if it’s a rental then it won’t happen until there is cost certainty post arb.

Whats the roster look like if Debrincat is here at 8m. 7.65 is best case . Hypothetically the award is 8.

this was a joke. Have another hit lighten up

That's the problem, I've only had my coffee so far, not my hit or two.

Will make sure to partake before I go out for some nice breaky though.

To my credit, this IS the exact type of reporting we've had for weeks, so it almost looks like reporting and not a joke.

It was the same with the team sale. Now debrincat drama.

If the reporters have nothing to report, then shut up and keep digging. This necessity to have daily tweets with no new information is quite annoying, even after a bong rip or two.
