Andersen was fantastic last year, but hurt for the playoffs.
Andersen wasn't great this year and was hurt, but was healthy and fantastic in the playoffs.

That's the concern. He get's hurt too often and/or his play degrades when he plays when hurt.

A healthy Andersen for a regular season and playoffs would be great, but at this point, is that realistic? As a Canes fan, I'd be ok with bringing him back, but the concern is that I would be wary of counting on Kochetkov to take a lot of games as I'm not convinced he's ready.

Not going to be much of a market for a guy who overall had bad year and has struggled to stay healthy and is turning 35 yrs old

The contract I put forth is comparable to what Vokoun got at around similar age and as FA
You're using a contract signed in 2012 as a comparable for a contract to be signed in 2023? I'd be surprised if Andersen signs a contract that pays him less than Jake Allen.

Whoever brings in Andersen will need a solid #3 to take on backup duty when Andersen gets hurt.

Carolina was wise/fortunate to get Kochetkov over from Russia after the 2021 season and have him in Chicago as the 3rd goalie the past 2 years. Now with Kochetkov graduating to the backup, Carolina will need to sign a veteran #3 to pair with Perets if they sign Andersen.

If he signs with Canes, probably like 2 years and close to his current caphit, bit less i'd say.

UFA is a whole another thing, would probably get more years and maybe even a slight bump in salary.

He was really bad in the regular season this year, but close to Vezina good last year. As others have said, he's hurt about 50% of the time, and by hurt it can be a bump or a bruise. He is damn near elite if he's fully healthy, but you just can't count on getting a healthy Freddie for most of the time. I think he'll probably get another contract about the same as what he just got, which was $4.5M average for two years. Pick apart his warts all you want, but he also might be the best option right now in free agency this offseason, and there are several teams looking to upgrade.

Thanks for the insight. Yep, this is my biggest reservation about Dubas. Though, I will say Dubas is not afraid to pull the trigger and aggressively push for trades. Given the climate where guys like Ullmark, Swayman, Hellebuyck and even Saros may potentially be on the table, my hope is he can pull something off. But yea, agreed, gut feeling is he blows it given his track record on goalies.

And I didn't even bring up Michael Hutchinson.

Or Michael Nuvirth who for sure didn't get into apre season game, and I don't think even got into a practice.

For all the good things Dubas did, and he did, Muzzin, Brodie, Tavares, Bunt, Kampf and ROR just to name a few.

For all the good he did, he can't evaluate goaltending to save his life.

If the fate of the world depended on Kyle Dubas choosing a goaltender we'd all be dead.

One thing I know is the Canes are not going to overpay. That's their MO.

Would love him in Ottawa on a short term deal and he can split time with Forsberg for us .

Between the two we should have one healthy G lol

Make sure you have a good #3 in case he disappears for a long stretch again.

If the canes bring him back this is a must for them as I don’t want them riding Koochie too hard.

As much as Dundon says he wants everyone back and not to change the "mix" of the roster because it's easier to get worse than better...I figure one of Andersen or Raanta has got to be changed for someone more steady and durable, even if mediocre.

Mrazek, Nedeljkovic, McEl...we've made mediocre goalies look better than they were before. We can't make them not fragile.

Freddy is still really good, but he is aging, and gets injured a lot.

I'd say he gets a 2 year deal at best.

Guy....

missed all of last seasons PO
missed 30+ games this year
was really up and down in the regular season
then missed the 1st rd of the POs this year. Came back and was the best he was in 18 months and lost a goalie duel.

If he's on your team you need someone else at a 1b level.
