Fredrik Andersen is an upcoming UFA, he's been a very good goalie for a very long time and I'm intrigued by where people think he might go if he leaves Carolina.

Buffalo has needed a goalie for a decade they make a lot of sense.

LA needs to upgrade their net.

Vegas, even if they win the cup with Adin Hill probably aren't going to want a Tompson/Hill tandem next year.

Toronto isn't something I'm completely willing to rule out

While I acknowledge that a return to Toronto is unlikely, I also know how close Andersen is to Matthews and Marner, and Nylander, that group were best of friends when he was there the first time nor did Andersen have anywhere close to the defense in front of him he would now.

As I've said before with a new GM coming in, I'm not convinced Samsonov spot as #1 is secure.

Maybe Winnipeg if they move Hellebyuck.

He's "pretty good" but turning 34... and wasn't healthy the past season... I don't think any team is going to commit significant $$$ or term to him. Maybe he gets a 1-2 year contract for $2-4M? :dunno:

If Frederik Andersen doesn’t stay in Carolina it may be possible that he returns to the SHL to play for Frolunda HC as the club has a young Danish netminder that Andersen could mentor.

He proved he can be very effective in the playoffs, he’s not taking a $2M pay cut.

Not going to be much of a market for a guy who overall had bad year and has struggled to stay healthy and is turning 35 yrs old

The contract I put forth is comparable to what Vokoun got at around similar age and as FA

keep in mind hes making 2x4.5 now and i dont really think hes much more than that. he did do very well in the playoffs but he was garbo in the reg season and that was because he was injured off and on. He doesnt seem to play unless hes fully 100%.

That will hold him down below 5mil. Id be shocked if he gets more than hes getting now.

Freddy is better than Vokoun, and that's not a knock on Vokoun I was a fan of his.

But at his best Freddy is better

To expect him to take almost a 50% pay cut is ridiculous. Your comparable is also from 10yrs ago, pretty much completely irrelevant now.

There is a huge market for him he isn't going to the SHL he is a perfect fit for a team like Ottawa.

Would be a better move than playing for your weak team lol
Imagine the audacity haha

It's simple. Pens let him walk. It has not worked out in Pittsburgh. New goalie situation should be priority #1 for Dubas (or whoever the new GM is).

If it is Dubas expect goalie to be a problem.

This is a man that took Leafs and immediately destroyed their goalie depth by putting both Pickard and Macelheinney on waivers.

Then he basically ignored the need for a backup for 17 months before acquiring Jack Campbell.

He then handed the #1 job to Jack Campbell which failed miserably outside of an admittedly incredibly hot November.

The ONE time he decided not to ignore the backup goalie he signed Mrazek to 3 years at 3.8 million per.

Then he got Lucky with Samsonov who had a strong regular season

Murray was OK when he played.

Point is Dubas can't evaluate goaltending to save his life.

Thanks for the insight. Yep, this is my biggest reservation about Dubas. Though, I will say Dubas is not afraid to pull the trigger and aggressively push for trades. Given the climate where guys like Ullmark, Swayman, Hellebuyck and even Saros may potentially be on the table, my hope is he can pull something off. But yea, agreed, gut feeling is he blows it given his track record on goalies.

I think he stays in Carolina either with a multi year and tiny paycut or one year at something like up to 5 mill.

So, basically a Andersen to Leafs thread in a round about way.

Good luck moving Murray.
