Confirmed with Link: Frederic & Max Jones traded to Oilers for 2nd , 4th and Max Wanner

I can't say I'm too happy with this trade but it really depends on how far apart they were in negotiations (if the Bruins wanted him at all). If he ends up signing a friendly deal somewhere that the Bruins didn't offer I'd be even more upset. I'm not the biggest Frederic fan but even with his inconsistencies, at his age and with the right surrounding cast he is still, to me, a serviceable bottom six forward, and a pretty versatile one at that since he can play all three positions.

So again, this all depends on what he will be signing for in the future - getting a 2nd from St Louis in a weak draft that in all likelihood given the percentage of players picked in that spot won't amount to much, and even if they do will be years out, and a 2026 4th even farther out with less likelihood, the Bruins didn't get much.

I don't hold up much hope for Wanner - a 9th rated prospect on a very weak Oilers defense pool, one in which has added Alec Regula who the Bruins didn't bother keeping.
I do understand. However, to what I bolded above, the Bruins have far far greater needs than a "serviceable bottom six forward". Given the state of our pipeline, you simply have to let go of lesser needs if you are to start to address greater needs.

Unless Freddy was willing to sign a very friendly deal, you jettison him every day and twice on Sunday. And even then I'm not sure what he adds.

Anyone who watches a Bruins game moving forward and says "I miss Freddy out there" has been watching different hockey than me.

Nice kid and I wish him well - but when the radiator is starting to steam on your car you don't worry about the mud that's built up on your floormats. A time and place for everything.

I would be shocked if they have not had a discussion on extension over the last 8 months since TF became eligible. I think it is quite likely that they have not had said discussion in a while, and that Sweeney did not consider an extension recently

Sweeney traded for a Canadian kid. How about that? :naughty:
And apparently today is my 20th anniversary on HFBoards (I got the trophy) LOL. I don't know if I like that too much.
Saskatchewan actually. Which I love. I can't remember the last Bruin from Saskatchewan. Maybe Redden. DeBrusk played in Swift Current but was from Alberta.

I also joined in 2005 but my date is at the end of July.

Exactly! A trade that happened 10yrs ago and Bruins fans still are mad about it. If we had traded a 2nd and a 4th for guy whose played like Frederic this season and was a pending UFA, this place would have been livid.

Didnt we do that with Lee Stempniak?

Yeah, I noticed that and it's cool. I was more poking at the couple of posters here who think Sweeney is allergic to drafting or acquiring Canadian players, though. Twenty years, yeesh. You'll be getting your trophy soon. I need to find then and now pictures to post

Krejci and Bergeron? They never really played him above line three production or no.
Most common linemates this year were Wahlstrom and Brazeau, last year he had JVR and Coyle. Hell when they drafted him they admitted they saw his peak as a bottom 6 forward and they kept him there. No PP time, nothing doing on the PK. Hope he gets more of a shot and finds some more success.
I know he didn't play with Krejci or Bergeron. My point was that if Frederick did perform, he would have played with one of them. He had 200 games to prove he was good enough to play with either of those centers, and he did not.

Yes and people still bring it up. Your all proving my point lol. If someone isn't happy w/ this return then they had unrealistic expectations

I don't know what point I am proving here, honestly. The Bruins gave that same basic deal for shitty Lee Stempniak, so to get what they got for Frederic I think is a great return. We also got rid of Minimum Jones and picked up a prospect in the process and only for eating 50% of Trent's already meagre salary.

Not quite.

Stempniak was producing at a rate nearly triple that of Frederic this season.

That's fair but he ended up being a complete waste as a Bruins acquisition. Frederic has a skillset that Stempniak never had, though, in addition to being a good deal younger, and so I feel like the perceived value probably evens out. What it all means to me is that the Bruins got a good deal for Frederic.

Circular logic - He would have played with them and produced more but he never produced enough to play with them.

Just saying I hope he lands in a place that values what he can bring beyond what Boston had to offer him. Edmonton seems like a pretty good opportunity if he can get healthy in time.

I'm not saying to deliberately tank. Every team goes through this clear decline in time. Drag it out and the rebuild takes longer. It's over. Sell and stink and restack. We're not even a Wild Card team and have one of the worst prospect pools in the league.

The boat is sinking and it's clear. I don't want to re-live the Sinden years where the team was only good enough to make the first round and then get torpedoed. Excluding the EN goal, they just gave up five goals to one of the worst offensive teams in the league. They don't have a coach. It's over brother.
This team is not deliberately tanking, they are not good enough to win! Take the top 2 defensemen and the 2nd best forward off any team in the league and winning will be a problem. Not to mention that this team was no ball of fire with all those guys in the lineup!

To be fair im not mad about it and wasnt then. I just definitely remember it. I just always thought when the bruins finally were sellers thered be a current bruins type team to sell too.

Peeke also seemed to play better when given more time on ice!
Move everything you can for as many picks. This team has to be exploded

And there is the problem. Every team deals with injuries. This team is shallow and has no depth. And no spine.

They were inconsistent and a mess even when everyone was in the lineup. Sorry to sound redundant, but it's over. Clean front office, find a coach, stack draft capital for June and just restart. This process can take a decade if a team doesn't accept hard facts and move on. Draft well and get players that are motivated (do we have any of those?) on ELC's and build a new core.

What core do we have? Pasta and McAvoy. Swayman is untradeable given his poor play and I'd rather not spend cap space on crap deals like Elias Lindholm. Burn it down.
