Proposal: Frederic Gaudreau for Jordan Harris

Habs have an excess of NHL defensemen and Minnesota an excess of NHL forward.

MTL needs more depth in terms of forwards and Minnesota only have 5 NHL defensemen signed.

Neither are impact players, but serviceable role NHLers.

Harris can play both sides, he is a good skater and is smart. He's a 3rd pair defenseman, but one you can play against tougher competition without the coach getting his hair grayer.

Gaudreau is a Swiss knife kind of forward.
He just had a substandard season but MSL could use such a smart and dedicated to details kind of player.

Ah yes, another in an endless list of proposals where some random guy gets traded to Montreal because he is Quebecois. Fine, I will play. We will not trade one of our young D men for some 30 plus year old role player. We can just sign a guy like that.

He had a core injury at the end of the previous season, got surgery, then game 3 last season was targeted by his former teammate Reaves who hit him high in the same spot. Was basically useless at anything requiring his upper body for the entire season. Can only improve, but I doubt anyone would trade for him without seeing he is fully healthy.

The two high production seasons he spent significant time wingers he had no business playing with. Fiala and Boldy.

The problem is Montreal has a recognized track record of over paying to acquire home town players. Can you fault everyone and their uncle in trying to wave the proverbial red flag in front of the bull.

Thankfully, there’s a new sheriff in town who isn’t going to undermine the sole strength of the club, its mobile defence, in a vain effort to acquire the next home town hero.

He's a fringe bottom 6 guy but he got absolutely trucked by Reaves in the second game of the season, missed a bunch of time and could never get going.

He tried playing thru injury for a couple of weeks bc of other injuries to the team and lack of cap space / ahl option to replace but eventually had to sit to recover. In that recovery period the Wild changed coaches from Evason (who was the entire reason Gaudreau got a chance/ contract) to Hynes. Hynes made tweaks to push tempo in transition and personally I felt like Freddy didnt adapt well (freddy plays a simple, risk-averse game). Hynes was also just nowhere near as loyal or trusting as Evason.

TLDR: fringe bottom 6 guy gets nagging injury at season start that he never really recovers from followed by a coaching change and small systems changes that generally tended to highlight his weaknesses and minimize his strengths imo.

Ok, the Reaves hit and playing through it makes sense and the coaching change affecting his results makes sense. However, I wouldn’t call him a fringe bottom 6 guy. Fringe bottom 6 guys can’t average 0.5 ppg over two full seasons even if they are playing with top6 wingers like Boldy and Fiala.
