Freddie Anderson

Fleury's first goal against was worse, so I don't know about 10/10

There isn't a goalie alive who could bail out this Leafs team.
Spezza scored the 1st one, a bullet right beside his ear.
The Vegas 1st goal went through Andersen.

Stoners and Spezzas goals were bullets an inch under bar at full force close to goalie mask from the dots. That is probably the hardest shot to save in the league. I don't care how fast a guy can move his catching glove. It is rarely ever made.

The first goal against Freddy saw the pass, saw the shot and it got through his legs and he opened up to find it instead of staying tight. All I'm saying is that if you think Freddy is world class then he makes that save. I do not think he is world class. I think he is a very good goalie but not at all close to fleury. Fleury made 3 saves that were 10 bellers with game on the line.

Spezza is above and outside the dots, and it was a clean look. You can tell from Fleury's reaction that he knows he dropped his glove. You can see the puck here.

A one-timer is a more difficult save.

Look I never played goalie so I am talking through one of my buddies who was a pro goalie who I had drinks with last night. It is extremely difficult to raise your glove to your head to catch a puck. Bullets around the head the goalies never save unless it hits them in the mask.

Freddie is gonna play a TON now

keefe does not have to save him for a deep PO run

only babcock "had to",,,according to the mouth pieces and pundits

now the story line is "do what ever you have to, to get into the POs"

Won't mind Freddie being played a TON:

Whoever has a problem with Andersen is missing everything. By that i mean blaming him in any way shape or form. Not even going to elaborate or reply to arguments on this. Thats all i have to say on it.

You are absolutely spot on, mate!!
EW has just finished their
GAR goalie charts. Let's take a look:

If we focus only on Freddie as a leaf - how many goalies has been more valuable for his team during regular season 2016-2020. The answer is NONE

Good teams can win with an average backup goalie. Domingue won 20 games last year for Tampa.

If the team plays like they should even Hutch/Kaskisuo should be able to play above .500 hockey.

Any team that loses their starter in playoffs is pretty much screwed aside from 3 or 4 teams though.

Of course a GAR accumulated over a 4 year time span, cannot be compared with goalies with much less time on ice, so how does it look if we look at GAR/60. That should be a better comparison, right? - Freddie has to drop down significantly with all those softies - and we have October every year not to forget. Right?
Only players with 3500 shots against even strengh has been included to avoid too small sample sizes

Fwiw, if we reduce the shots against to 2000 - he would still be number 4 !
Even strength per 100 shots he is number 4, short handed per 100 shots he is number 8.

Two things to note:
Freddie is elite
Anaheim had a hell of a goalie tandem before the trade

Thanks for posting that. He has quality games at a consistency rate tops in the league. I hope keefe’s style of play finally knocks down his GAA and raises his Sv% to where it should be if his team defense in front of him is a better one. He’s as good as any top Goalie a long time. I would like to see him take a Vezina ;)

GAA and Wins - they are more team stats than goalie stats
Save% on the other hand is important. Freddie may not hit a .93 season to get the Vezina (which is given to winning team goalies more than to the goalies that in reality deserved to win it). If TML next season win the Presidents Trophy it is likely Freddie will win the Vezina. I doubt he will ever win the Vezina because he were the season best goalie. Freddie’s strength is consistency and his ability to play a lot of games - and overcome weak goals mentaly (he is well trained in that )

One thing to note: Andersen is definitely not elite.

Then Dubas gets off his ass and gets a goalie which should be done anyway because we have no backup

Things could improve if the team actually plays up to their ability without a backup goalie change.

The players quit on Babcock last year. And doubled down this year.

Correct. He’s good but not great. We need to find his replacement and backup as well. He’s going to command a substantial raise pretty soon
I think you have this stated right. I am hoping Woll will be his replacement in 2-4 years. and he will get a $3M riase per which we can't afford. In my mind the difference between great and good occurs in the playoffs when everything counts. So far all I can say is I am behind Freddy 100% because I think he was badly let down by Gards in game 7 loss 2 years ago. Although the point shot was still house league But last year his game 7 was weak. Every team that contends needs their goalie to make every regular save. Freddy did not do that for us. Maybe he needs to go see a shrink to get the little man out of his head in game 7's.

Whats weird about Anderson is that he can be the best goalie in hockey for long stretches but he is also a below average keeper in Octobers and has been outplayed by the other keeper in every playoff series so far.

A 4.44 GAA and an 879 save% is not the teams fault, that's. not defense that's simply shit goaltending.

You could havee the worst defense in the NHL there is NO excuse for THAT
